McDunkinTony Woods, the most discussed 4.6 points per game scorer that I can remember, is also taking his 3.2 rebounds per game to Texas. That’s the prediction from an Austin sports columnist.
Not Louisville, which took the initial PR hit for considering taking the guy who got physical with the mother of his child last year. Woods has lived in town for many months while attending classes at JCC and trying to decide on his next move.
Not Kentucky, which flirted with Woods during the spring but was likely merely trying to annoy Rick Pitino. John Calipari has rarely paused in taking guys with checkered pasts (see Jeremy Hunt, Sean Banks and others for details).
Maybe this was the real warning sign with Woods: In 61 college games, he contributed 60 turnovers — and four assists, two each season. For the record, Josh Harrellson had 30 assists and 28 turnovers last season.
According to columnist Kirk Bohls, Texas will be the big winner/loser in the Woods’ Sweepstakes. Maybe UT really is the third-best coaching job in college basketball.
Who knew?

mikeyvthedonParticipantThat I can not give more pluses to this wise basketball sage. Or, the guy who tends to find some cool information on the net. Well done Chris, I was kind of wondering about the Woods situation. I think it would be best for him to go to Texas, a team where he can more than likely get more PT due to their ridiculously scarce front court. Kentucky and Louisville may have issues with having a "true" Center, but Texas is in a much worse way as far as next year is concerned. As much as I want Clint Chapman (a dude from Oregon) to do well, I think he would be much better off coming off of the bench. I am not a huge Longhorns fan, but it would be nice for Myck Kabongo and crew to get a little more help to try and compete for next year.

surveParticipantI dont think we can discard Woods potential until we see him play for someone BESIDES Wake. After the death of Prosser, Wake’s program have been in the crapper….and thats not necessarily due to a lack of talent.

PureshooterParticipantI’m not sure you can say the program has been in the crapper since Prosser. The post season hasn’t been great, but Gaudio did have two 20 win seasons (24-6, 20-11). Last year was possibly the worst season in Wake basketball in the last 20 years, but we’ll see how Bzdelik does this season. In the time he has been at Wake there have been plenty of other players that have flourished (James Johnson, Jeff Teague, Farouq Aminu, Ishmael Smith).
Woods had his chance to shine this year, but he felt it better to assault his girlfriend. It’s his fault, not Wake Forest’s.
