RUDEBOY_ParticipantYou can put all those rumors of Howard being traded to the Lakers,Bulls or Nets on hold for a few years..Reports are saying Howard meet with members of the Magic front office over the holiday weekend to discuss details on a new 2 year deal..A deal could be announce by the end of the week….Howard told the Orlando tv station that he wants to build a winner in Orlando and hope they can add some new pieces…
That might be easier said than done, because The Magic dont have enuff cap flexibilty to go after a free agent..But GM Otis Smith is a smart guy thats known to make some savvy and creative moves…..

JimmeredYaWabafetParticipantGM Otis Smith is a smart guy thats known to make some savvy and creative moves…..
Like trading for a shitty Arenas, trading away Gortat who is exactly what they need to be maybe the best team in the NBA, he should be fired

What The DevilParticipantOtis Smith has his work cut out for him. He really does need to improve Howard’s supporting cast and with their salary as grotesque as it is…I find him to be in a horrible position

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThe trading of Gortat only hurt them a little becuz it left them without a big man.But Gortat rarely got on the floor and some insiders said Gortat & Howard didnt get along and Dwight might’ve had something to do with him being traded….
It was the trading away their wing defenders that hurt them…I live in Orlando and alot of folks were more upset about them getting rid of Pietrus than seeing Carter or Gortat go..Becuz they were wondering who would guard Wade,Pierce or Lebron in the playoffs?

What The DevilParticipantI personally like Pietrus. He played defense and knocked down the occasional 3. Getting rid of Carter was great, too bad they got Hedo back in return.

ChrischiParticipantHow the hell is he supposed to give Howard a better supporting cast? Arenas contract will always pull them down, who on earth would trade for that?
I really respect Howard. He is bringing some european flair to the NBA, being loyal to his team. And I really understand it. I think he feels really comfortable with Van Gundy and especially with Ewing, he also has a great chemistry with Jameer. I remember when Lewis was traded, you could really see tears in Van Gundys eyes. Although Lewis played like shit, Van Gundy was really sad of losing him as a person.
The Magic are in a shitty position and that is being mediocre. They can’t rebuild because the Nelson+Howard+Van Gundy combo alone will always get them to the playoffs. But they will never reach true greatness with Arenas contract pulling them down. Adding to this the Bulls and Heat will dominate the East for the years to come. Add a dangerous veteran team with the Celtics. No chance…
I don’t know is there a way to get rid of Arenas contract? I read sometimes that players get bought out of contracts, maybe they have an agreement, that Howard stays if Arenas gets bought out and the ownerships promises him to make certain moves and invest money for new players.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantA better trade in return, Howard for 3 or 4 years beats renting him for the year..the harsh reality is there are more then enough stupid Gm’s in the league to keep the Magic’s hope alive in making a wild trade and adding a 2nd Superstar, but they have no lottery picks in the near future and the contracts mentioned above like Arenas, Hedo, Bass and Nelson will make it hard to get any where in the trade market, also their style of play is not built for success in the playoffs…bottom line Howard must go…

NashyMingParticipantIf anything, I would praise Dwight Howard for his loyalty to the Magic and the fans in Orlando more than praising Otis Smith on able to keep Dwight.
Otis Smith had not been running the Magic too well. He could have done a lot better had he not made that stupid ridiculously huge contract to Rashad Lewis who was not even a true all-star.
If Dwight Howard signs this extension, I have a lot of respect for him to try to be his own man and stay loyal to a team.

What The DevilParticipantHow much longer is Arenas contract? I’m not too sure really. They could probably get a good deal whenever he is in his last year. I think they should get rid of Otis Smith. He really has messed this team up. I think they should look to see what they can get for anyone except Howard because they aren’t going anywhere with this team.

AKOOParticipantHope this happens but doubt it and I do not see them trading him if they sign him. He is really all alone when it comes to young talent on that team and they don’t even have pieces anyone else really wants. I don’t get it, that’s why I don’t fully believe it.

What The DevilParticipantThank you Mr. Chicago..after looking at that I don’t know if I’ll be able to get an erection any time soon.
