The determining factor of the Finals will be the pace of the game. If Miami can get out in transition, and get easy fastbreak points, they will be hard to beat. I f Dallas can keep the pace slow and get the ball to Dirk in the post and make threes when he is doubled, they should prevail. Also a key for Dallas should be to get Shawn Marion rooing to the way he did in game 5, as well as containing James and Wade without letting guys like Miller or Haslem get hot. for Miami, they cant get discouraged when Dirk hits a fallaway 20 footer with 3 hands in his face. They should also look ot get guys like Miller, Jones, and Bibby going. All in all, I think the pace will be the deciding factor in whoever wins, because Miami is not a great half court offensive team, and although Dallas is not as slow as the Lakers, they aren’t the fastest bunch. Dallas in 7or Miami in 6. I think that if Miami is up 3-2 foing back to Miami, they will close out. If not, I think Dirk’s will is too much for anyone right now.

This isn’t Flash from 2006. It’s no easy task, but this current version of D. Wade is human and can be contained as Bogans and Brewer showed. Stevenson can make it difficult. Kidd can make it difficult. And then of course Chandler will be behind them waiting.

Put Kidd on him some, as well as Stevenson. The main threat is LeBron so Marion has his work cut out for him.
I think the Mavs biggest priority is containing LeBron and then Bosh (can Dirk contain him?).
I think that Kidd can bother Wade and then their centers can shut down the paint.
The Mavs need to control the boards and not turn the ball over.

Chandler defended Aldridge in the first round, who isn’t that much different than Bosh. Dirk will defend Anthony, who isn’t a threat to score… That way Dirk will be able to save his energy for the offensive end.

Dirk can’t "rest" on defense no matter who he guards. He needsto go all out n both ends or else the Mavs won’t win.

If you honestly believe Kidd and Stevenson can slow Wade, you’re out of your mind.

They couldn’t even contain Westbrook from getting into the lane and doing what he wanted, the only person who stopped RW0 was himself.  Wade is a more controlled version of RW0, a better finisher, and a better shooter

Is going to go off. I’m sorry but no one has challenged the Heat more defensively than all three teams they went up against. The bulls are the most potent defensive team since the Celtics. Mavs don’t even hold a candle to their defense. Shawn Marion will be frustrated, not Lebron. As for the whole D-wade issue, I aslo find it a joke that people think Kidd or Stevenson will slow him down. Are you serious? Kidd’s defense is good, but he didn’t out play westbrook due to his ‘good’ defense. Westbrook played out of control, he beat himself with horrible shot selection and poor judgement with the ball. The only advantage I’m giving Dallas this year, is their three point shooting, and Dirk. Thats it. Maybe Tyson Chandler because of his inside presence along with Haywood.

Dallas does not play good defense, they play acceptable defense. But lets be real here, the bulls arguably did the best job defending the best one-two punch in the nba. Thats as good as its going to get. But hey, the games tommorow, lets see what happens. I can’t wait.

Bosh is a better player than Aldridge, plus im curious who Dirk guards if the Heat play Wade, Miller, James, Haslem and Bosh at the end of games… This series isn’t a good match for the Mavs the Heat has plenty of players (Anthony, Haslem, Bosh, James) to throw at Dirk… I hope to see James on Dirk in crunch time…

IF Bosh is better than Aldridge, it’s not by much. They’re similar players. Play a similar style of game.

The Blazers threw Camby, Aldridge and Wallace at him. The Lakers threw Gasol, Odom, Bynum and Artest at him. The Thunder threw Ibaka, Perkins, Collison, Durant and Thabo at him and it didn’t bother him. At this point, there’s no defense that Dirk hasn’t seen. He’s seen length, strength, doubles and triples… I’d love to see LeBron check Dirk too… The outcome is going to be the same as it’s been all playoffs… A 7 footer shooting over a smaller player’s head. There is no one on Miami that’s going to stop Dirk individually.

Wade is tough to defend, but this isn’t the same Wade Dallas seen in 2006. This Wade can be defended, especially when he’s not shooting well. As long as you don’t fall for the pump fake and keep him off of the line, he’s very guardable. I think the Stevenson and Kidd will do a good job. I don’t see a big difference between Stevenson and Bogans.

MIA defense will be the BEST and FASTEST defense that Dirk has seen all playoffs and the combination of Lebron, Bosh and Haslem will give Dirk issues… I don’t think Dirk will have is way with Lebron if anything I think he will struggle to consistently get off clean shots because of Lebron size and length.. I would say right now Lebron is arguably the best wing defender in the league, Dirk can be stopped, but can be slowed down by tough, long 6’8 defenders…

This may not be the Wade of 06 but 23 ppg 5 reb 5 asst shooting mid to high forties from the field combined will solid defense against Terry is all the Heat needs from him to win the series….

I was “butidonthavemoney”. Some people called me “Money” for short, but I became fond of the “NoMoney” tag from 8th.

The Mavs have a better point guard and center.  If you count Dirk as a power forward then they also win that battle between Dirk and Bosh.  The Mavs also have the better bench.  The key for them is to win the rebounding battle and to contain LeBron (with Marion, Stevenson, Corey Brewer, and Dirk).  I think Dirk (along with some help from Marion and Chandler) can do a decent job on Bosh.  If I were the Mavs I would let Wade try to beat me.  He can get his points against Kidd and Stevenson but I would make him work for them, and try to force him into low percentage shots.

The Mavs have the better bench so the Mavs need to win that battle decisively.  If Brendan Haywood can match the rebounding and intensity of Udonis Haslem then the Mavs will be in good shape.  If they can get ANYTHING out of Brian Cardinal then that would be an added bonus.  He’s another big body who can rebound and who has six fouls to give.  Corey Brewer can come in handy too.  He hasn’t played much but he is another guy who can defend some, and he is long and athletic.  Dallas has to maximize their depth.

For the series the Mavs need to split the first two games and get at least two back in Dallas.  If they go back to Miami up 3-2 then they have a decent shot at winning the series.

The Mavs need to concentrate on holding the BIG THREE to 65 or 70 points a game.  If they score below 70 then I like the Mavs chances with Dirk getting his and the rest of the guys scoring well.  … Dirk also needs to shoot efficiently and within the flow of the offense.  I think he needs to average 25-30 points a game.  Probably closer to 30.  Then hold Bosh to 17-18 points and contain LeBron to around 24-25 or so a night.  Then force Wade into tough shots and throw a lot of different looks at him, and make him try to score 30-plus a night.  If Shawn Marion can match Bosh’s scoring and rebounding totals I really like Dallas’ chances in this series.

Hasn’t Dirk seen those kind of defenders the entire playoffs? He’s seen length. He’s seen size. He’s seen toughness. He’s been played physical. There is not one individual player on the Heat that is going to stop him, including LeBron.

The only way the Heat can slow Dirk is by doubling him, bringing over a help defender and making Dirk pass the ball. The Heat switch and rotate fast, so it’ll be interesting to see if Dallas can get the open shots they’ve gotten the entire playoffs. I think they will. I think for the first time in the playoffs, we’ll see the Heat’s defense get spread out and put on it’s heels.
