The Mavs have to do an awful lot right if they want to win this series. The Keys:

    – Of course the biggest advantage every team has against the Heat is the bench and since the Mavs have a top 3 bench in this league this will be a factor in this game. Of course the Heat role players will not get a lot of time but we have to use that time and punish them, getting some easy buckets .

    – Take out Chris Bosh. The Mavs have the luxury to have two long 7’0 or maybe even taller big man. Dirk can handle Joel Anthony while Chandler defends Bosh. Of course Dirk "I rebound almost as bad as Brook Lopez" Nowitzki will have trouble against Joel going for boards and Chandler will be missed in the paint but I think it’d be worth it if we could take out Bosh. If I was Carlisle I would tell Chandler to give Bosh jumpers instead of trying to overcontest every shot. I think Bosh  has struggled with contested jumpers and I would take those instead of letting him put the ball on the floor. I think hewould be bothered enough if he sees Chandlers enormous body in front of him.

    – Obviously you will not be able to contain Wade and LBJ but I think if the Mavs play solid D on them we could get some wins. We have some solid players to throw at them Marion, Stevenson, Kidd and maybe a little Terry. I think especially Kidd on Wade could be huge. Kidd is one of the best at forcing TO and the Big Two especially Wade have struggled with TOs so far. We can get some easy buckets for Marion and Terry or some threes on the break that way. Of course don’t run to much against Miami but getting some easy buckets and getting Wade out of his rhythm could be big. The Mavs will play a lot of zone against the Heat anyway which will probably help a lot also.

    – Knock down threes. This will be very though against the Heat because they switch and play the best D in the league but I think two factors could help us. The Heat cannot match Chandlers size and strength. His offensive rebounding and our good ball movement on the perimeter could get us some open threes. Another factor would be isolataing Dirk, Sadly Haslem is back and playing very solidly but still, isolating Dirk could be big because Anthony and Haslem will have a tough time with him. Dirk could get them into foul trouble and to the line which would make the Heat frontcourt even thinner which would give us even bigger chances on the offensive glass. And if the Heat double team him one guy has to be open. Of course double teaming him could get the Heat some easy buckets in transition, nonetheless I’d take that risk.

    – Battle at the freethrowline. Of course I don’t think or expect that the pussy jumpshooting Mavs get as many freethrows as the always attacking Heat. But come on. I think after Dirks 24/24 game some refs thought that he had enough freethrows for now. I thought he got hacked a lot in the last two games against the Thunder. Collison played excellent defense sure and I don’t think every little contact should be called but when Westbrook and Durant get freethrows for every little contact them, Dirk should’ve gotten them also.

I really don’t want to start whining about the refs but I think the Heat got a lot of lucky threepoint plays and generally most 50-50 calls. I’m not your random youtube Kobe dicksucking fanboy, I like the Heat. I think those guys, especially LBJ didn’t deserve all the hate, I was rooting for the Heat in the east but please if you give the Big 3 freethrows for every small contact give them to Dirk also if Anthony and Haslem hack him.

What do you guys think are the keys for this game? Feel free to comment.

Prediction: Heat in 6. Although my predictions for the playoffs look like this so far: Blazers in 7, Lakers in 6, Mavs in 5, so I don’t seem to be that good at predicting games.

    Go Mavs!

During these playoffs the Mavs have not face a team that plays defense as good as the Heat.

Bosh and Haslem will be guarding Dirk most of the game, but during crunch time, Lebron will be called to guard him. A matchup I am excited to see.

I really don’t see the Heat putting Bosh on Dirk if Anthony or Haslem are available. I could even see James Jones defending him a little if the Heat go small. Late in the game its a different story though. James vs Dirk could will be fun and a tough matchup for Dirk.

Has been my prediction for the last two rounds, so I will stick with it for the Finals. I think Dallas is going to be a really tough match-up, and their shooting is second to none. They have more weapons than the Boondock Saints, and anyone can step up at anytime. Fortunately for the Heat, they have two of the best players in the game, not to mention a PF who just gave a very strong defensive team fits.

The keys of the series, as always, will be defense and rebounding. The Heat need to move the ball around and hopefully will bring in James Jones once in a while for that brilliant shooting touch of his. They need to limit guys like JJ Barea and Peja from having big games, and hopefully keep a body on Jason Terry at all times. Really think that the Heat will look better playing their bigger line-up, and see Mike Bibby playing a fairly small role in the series. Also, if Udonis Haslem magically gets back to his 2006 Finals form and D’s up Dirk hardcore, that would be a gigantic coup. Really looking forward to the series, should be a great one.

This is a match made in heaven.

Will it be Dirk or Lebron?

Dirk was crushed when he lost in 2006 after a 2 game lead and I think now he is focused as anyone I’ve seen in the playoffs.  Unfortunately, he has a tendency to have a really good or really bad playoff series.  Let’s hope he can continue where he left off.

Lebron wants it as bad as Dirk.  He sacrificed his legacy to get here.  His defense is becoming MJ like.

Wade doesn’t have to prove anything IMHO.  I’ve seen his greatness already.  He single handely willed his team to the championship in 06 starting with game 3.

    Should be fun.

Haslem can handle Dirk one-on-one.  Not that he would shut Dirk down, but he proved that in 2006, he can efficiently contain Dirk on his own.  LBJ would probably also spend time guarding Dirk as he’s the best defender with size.

Bosh would guard Chandler.  Chandler can probably muscle his way in the post and get dunks, but he can’t stop Bosh as Bosh is very good jump shooter and Chandler should at least come out and contest jump shots once in a while which would leave the post open.  Haywood on the other hand is way too slow to guard Bosh.

Marion has to have a very good series in order to play against LBJ both ways.

Stevenson would be guarding DWade, but his defense is going downhill.  I think maybe Corey Brewer can do a better job.  JKidd would also spend some time guarding DWade although he lost 2 steps but he’s still smart to play solid D.

In order for the Mavs to win:

    1) Dirk must overcome the memory of 2006 and score efficiently against Haslem and LBJ

    2) Marion must at least slow down LBJ while contributing 15pt+ a game

    3) Stojakovic hitting his 3s

Don’t really see too much use of Brendon Haywood as he’s too slow to play against Bosh and no need to defend Anthony, Dampier, etc.

Even if Caron Butler can play, they should avoid trying to play him because adding a guy back from injury and signifiantly alter the rotation had rarely ever worked out during playoff.

    Good post.

I totally agree about Butler I don’t think they’ll use him anyways even if he’s back healthy.

I’ve seen Chandler defend a lot of PFs and I think he’s done a good job. Haywood would struggle with Bosh but atleast he can defend the rim. He is playing most of his minutes with Marion and Peja anyway so one of them can handle Bosh

Haslem is a tough match-up. Dirk has to play well and like I said, maybe draw some fouls to get him to the bench. It will be no easy task though.

Dirk has changed a ton and matured in 5 yrs, so its hard to compare him from 5 yrs ago
