TheFactionCoalition.comParticipantLet’s say Westbrook’s game and attitude don’t change and OKC loses this round and whatever is going on, continues into next season. I would love to see a trade worked out where Westbrook and Rondo are the main pieces.
OKC would do it because Rondo is a GREAT facilitator, a very solid defender, brings playoff experience, and has shown he can take a back seat, which Westbrook seems to be struggling to do. They have a team that is built to win now, with a very strong defensive front court, young bigs coming off the bench, and a guy named KD. We all know the window to win isn’t very big, as free agency and a cap can’t assure you keep your core for very long, so when your team is built like this you want to take advantage. They can start Harden and sign an Eddie House type, or let Nate play more to come in with Sefolosha off the bench.
Boston would do it because they are going to be going through a transition. The Big 3 certainly aren’t as dominant as they were, and with the age they could use a young guy that wants to come in and take charge. Ray isn’t ball dominant, KG is nowhere near the force he once was, and Pierce’s game has def dropped as well. They showed in trading Perkins for Green they are looking into going a different style than they were before. IMO Westbrook is a better piece to build around, not sure if Boston would feel that way.
Rondo is making a lot more than Westbrook, so there has to be other pieces, or Westbrook could be signed to an extension before traded. . .I’m not sure if I’m going to be ripped apart for this, but I really like this idea for both teams

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantPeople are making a big deal about nothing regarding Russell Westbrook. There’s no problems between him and Durant. They’re both just young players (I believe they’re both just 22) trying to learn as they go how to best balance shots between them. They’ll figure out the balance in time, and they’ll be a deadly combo for however long they end up playing together.
Rondo is an interesting case. Now that the vets of Boston are being stared down by Father Time, it’ll be really interesting to see how Rondo plays as the focal point of an offense. That said, I still believe Boston has one more run in them- Ray Allen is in unbelievable shape for a guy his age, Pierce is skilled, and KG still has a little bit left in the tank.
I think a trade involving Westbrook and Rondo wouldn’t be practical for either team and how they play. Who knows what the future will bring, but for now, I’m not a fan of that deal for either team.

laarethekingsParticipantI don’t think OKC will trade Westbrook… They are 7 wins away from being the best and their best players are 22 years old… it’s called growing up and as of right now Westbrook is having a harder time with it than KD.

apb540ParticipantIf you think either of these guys will be trades you’re crazy.

omphalosParticipantI agree that it would never happen, but it would certainly be something beautiful from a basketball standpoint; Rondo feeding Durant would allow Harden to start as second scoring option, Ibaka would be getting lobs from Rajon, and Westbrook would get a team to run, as well as a coach who is more experienced with heady players in Doc Rivers.

HitsterParticipantNice idea but when I see trades headed up featuring star players you know it will never happen.

bkb77ParticipantDont think OKC will or Should Trade Westbrook But if they would I think a Trade w the Sixers of Jrue Holliday & Evan Turner w 2 1st rnd picks would be more realistic & probley the best deal out there. Not saying they should or they will but if it did thats prolly the best deal out there. or a CP3 straight up for westbrook

IndianaBasketballParticipantRondo is a great facilitator, can defend and rebound well… However, he is a liability shooting the ball. Teams don’t even defend him. He wouldn’t even take wide open jumpshots versus Miami. And if you put him on the line, he’s missing. I also think Rondo has too many mood swings.
I’d rather see a trade for Chris Paul, who has a complete game. I don’t think Westbrook’s goal is to be “the man” on a team, but he’d definitely embrace that role. He has the personality for it.
I kind of feel for Westbrook. He’s been getting killed and I kind of feel like the media is almost trying to create a problem between he and Durant that really isn’t there.
Westbrook does play a little selfish/out of control and can be turnover prone, but he’s only 22. He’s going to get better. People seem to forget that this is only his third season playing point guard. He just needs to work on his decision making. Once he does that, he could be the first or second point guard in basketball. I mean, he’s a top five point guard right now.

HitsterParticipantWestbrook came onto the team with Durant as the reigning rookie of the year so he naturally fell into the supporting role and with Jeff Green having moved on then Westbrook’s scoring is even more important to back up Durant as unless Harden starts there isn’t an obvious go to option outside of those two.
I don’t see OKC doing much to their line up over the next few years apart from adding a complimentary piece of two maybe the the draft or a good veteran FA. Sam Presti pulled the Perkins/Kristic/Green trade and gave Nick Collinson a contract extension so the major moves have been done now apart from upcoming rookie extensions.
Don’t forget that only two years ago the Thunder were 23-59, they are now in the Conference Finals.
