OldSkoolBasketballParticipantThe NFL has it so it would be different type of award instead of MVP of the league. The MVP award isn’t given to the best player in the league otherwise Kobe would have more than one. They have the Defensive Player of the Year so why not OPOY?

JoeWolf1I feel like winning the scoring title is an equivialent of winning offensive player of the year. The players who score the most points in football are often kickers, not the most dominant player on offense. The media covers it, and when you are (for example) looking at a players’ career if they won the scoring title, that certainly jumps out.

Anton123ParticipantI’d say KD, I mean he is the leading scorer and he might be the one of the most complete offensive players in the league. His team has also improved a whole lot, which must help him.
I’d say if OKC finished 2nd in the West and the award existed he’d be a lock to win it.
Oops, sorry, I turns out I can’t read the question right, silly me, sorry guys. I think the NBA has enough awards right now though.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantWait scoring title is actually a trophy? I thought it was just a title for players leading the league in scoring, nothingmore.

JoeWolf1I don’t think it’s a trophy, but I think winning the scoring title is an equivalent of an NBA OPOY award

ghrghrParticipantTo me, a guy who scores 25 pts shooting 52% is a better offensive player than a guy that scores 28 shooting 44%. So i don’t consider the scoring title a opoy award. Scoring is a function of team need and offensive skill. That being said, i don’t see the need for the award, but it would be fun to have it.(one more award to argue about)

iminipandaParticipantI agree with ghrghr. As an example Nash wouldve won an OPOY for sure with his high assist numbers during his MVP reign.

iminipandaParticipantUnlike in football, basketball doesnt have offense and defense specific posistions so I would say no.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIt should be a combination of:
- FG Attempts
- FG %
- FG Made
- FT Attempts
- FT %
- FT Made
- Assists
- Offensive Rebounds
- Offensive Effiency

apb540Participant27.9 PPG while shooting 46/35/88 on a team with other capable scorers….. I would give my vote to Durant.

joecheck88Participantthe question is, if the award did exist, would kobe and shaq have more mvp trophies? because then you reward players that play both offense and defense with the mvp.

Memphis MadnessParticipantSounds like a Hollinger stat. He could give out the Hollinger Offensive Award Trophy. On the flipside, there is a DEFENSIVE player of the year award, but it usually goes to the guy with the best defensive stats and not necessarily the best on-the-ball and team (help) defender.

LakerQThats kinda what the MVP award is. Doesn’t really take into account defense( or else Nash would have never won)

thparadoxParticipantMVP award is already about 80% offense.
Derrick Rose is a great player, but he’s not winning based on D.

ProudGrandpaParticipantMVP award is already about 80% offense.
MVP is a lot about being the best player on the best team.
Off. Player should just be who scores efficiently and prodigiously.

natedogggParticipantMaybe not an offensive player of the year award but they could possible hand out awards for the scoring title and leader in assists etc.

andxxxParticipantI’d give it to to Lebron he’s second in scoring shooting over 50% from the field has the highest PER and is averaging almost 7 assists. I’d give him offensive player of the year hands down

Demarcus OnealParticipantWhy dont they hand out trophies for scoring and assists leader like they do in hockey..?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/12/2011 - 4:06pm #520690
apb540ParticipantCuz it would be pointless.
