I just started thinking that maybe Blake Griffin and Kevin Love really aren’t as bad as we thought. I mean they are still belwo average but just sit and think about it. Just about every night they have to go against

    Paul Milsap

    Lamarcus Aldridge

    Dirk

    Gasol

    Zach Randolph

    Each other

    Lamar odom

    David West

    Luis Scola

    Jeff Green

    Tim duncan

    David Lee

All those PF’s who can score and either bang or make you chase them out side the paint because they can shoot, can anyone really check those guys night in and night out especially during a back to back? To be honest i think it is easier for someone who doesn’t have to carry there team on offense, to be a good defender. There are few players who can drop buckets while playing very good defense

Have you noticed that the best defenders usually dont carry the load on offense

    Mutombo

    Ben Wallace

    Bruce Bowen

    marcus camby

    Mark Eton

    Dennis Rodman

I’ve always felt that being a great defender isnt about shutting down great scorers, its about hustling and making everything difficult for them.  Its about funelling them towards shot blockers, its about rotating for help and coming off double teams quickly – its about taking charges, bangin through screens and fouling HARD.  Good defenders dont do this ticky tack reach in s#it for and 1’s, they smash the ball out of someones hands even if it means a flagrant.  This is why i love Rondo and garnett.  They both do all of the above every night, every possession.

Which is why I can’t stand when everuone wants to call out Rose’s defense. The kid exerts a ridiculous amount of energy on the offensive end.

BothTeamsPlayedHard’s reply in this thread should be interesting.

I think that defensive rebounding is massively underrated in evaluating a player’s defensive ability.  Love may not be able to stop his man or protect the paint, but he deserves some credit for having one of the greatest individual defensive rebounding seasons ever.  Many people talk about rebounding as if it is separate from offense and defense, but it is not, just as offensive rebounding is different than defensive rebounding.

B-ball fan- you would have an argument if the T Wolves had good defensive numbers, but they dont. Therefore, Love’s rebounding isnt translating to stopping people.

People can knock D Rose’s defense, but his team is awesome on defense, so no matter how bad or good he is defensively, it isnt hurting his team. Love’s team is atrocious on defense, and therefore he can be blamed on that end.

I’m not saying that Love is a good defender, but there are plenty of worse defenders out there.  The Wolves have more defensive issues than Love’s defensive play.

I think the Wolves defensive issues has more to do with Kurt Rambis more then anything.

    Ridnour is terrible defensively

Johnson was hyped as a potential lockdown defender

    Beasley is average

    Love is average

Milicic is probably their best post defender

Brewer is relative good defender with long arms

Webster and Flynn are below average

That is an alright squad with individual defenders, but they aren’t being held accountable and being pressured into playing good defense. they don’t play defense as a TEAM.

I think LOve will turn out to be a GOOD defender…… besides rebounding, him and Beasley dont even look like they try on the defensive ends at times….

It is Rambis’ fault that the Minnesota organization took Kevin Love’s side when he cried about being benched for being a bum defensively? You Timberwolves fans can’t have it both ways. Was he wrong when he tried to hold the players accountable for lousy defensive effort and execution, or is he wrong now that he is playing the guys you think have to be out there and don’t play the way they are supposed to play?

Quincy, defense isn’t about one-on-one matchups. Boston and Dallas both have a number of bad individual defenders, but they are in the right spots where they can operate in a good team scheme. LaMarcus Aldridge is not a dominant defensive player, but he knows where to be. Blake Griffin gets lost defensively. It isn’t just that he isn’t capable, it is that he is a rookie on a team with a bad coach. The Clippers will be able to sell tickets and posters with Blake, but they can’t win playing a garbage zone because nobody helps stop the dribble penetration. Kevin Love doesn’t move his feet. He’s like a 37 year old Shaq out there on pick and rolls. Michael Beasley has the athleticism where he shouldn’t be as bad as he is, but it is remarkable how little awareness he shows on that end. There is a reason that for as much love box score readers want to give Love and Beasley that their team is 11-37.

Exactly. Kevin Love kind of seems like a D bag. I saw his interview on espn the other day. he was talking about how it isnt his fault the team is bad and that his "numbers" speak for themselves, and defenses are always keying on him because hes thre only player. This doesnt sound like a guy with a winning attitude. This sounds like a guy who was crying when he wasnt getting the minutes and the touches, and now thinks hes awesome because hes got stats. His whole interview not once did he mention how he would rather be winning.

Love doesn’t have a good defensive team like Boston so that’s gonna make him look even worst of defense.

Like a girl who isn’t that good looking standing next to a bunch of girls who look worst

Overall it doesn’t matter since most players are average to belwo average defenders. People think Lamarcus is a good defender but the numbers show otherwise but his team is good as a definsive unti which makes it easier for him.

Twolves as a unti on defense is bad

As far as Loves interview who wouldnt say that if they are tryna get on the Allstar team. If i recall KG did the same thing with his commercial awhile back basically saying he’s done everything and its all his teammates

i understand that, but the way he was stressing his numbers it was like he didnt evenn care the team sucked. and yes, i fully expect those types of comments from KG, but thats not a reputation you want to have.

True prob not a good example because KG is a AZZ. The thing is we want players to be honest but we get on them when they are honest. How many times do we say " stop giving us the generic answer and tell us what you really think"
