HaleParticipantAnyone have some tips/tricks that make scoring or getting to the hole easier?

JNixonParticipantLook the opposite way that you’re driving to the rim to throw off your defender if he’s looking at your eyes
Use inside-out dribbles to fake one way and go the other without wasting much speed
Attack the defender by going at the side of the rim that his foot is sticking out farther out at. Like if his left foot is farther out from his body than his right, use a quick 1st step at his left foot and you’ll at least get him onto your hip, which is a good spot to have a defender on a drive to the bucket.

ilike.panochasParticipantYou have to observe the man that’s guarding you and analyze how he’s guarding. Is he pressuring you and not allowing you to take a jumpshot? If so, then you can use his aggressiveness to your advantage by using misdirection crossovers and jab steps to make him bait at your moves then drive to the lane. It really makes it easier to score of you have a consistent jumpshot to go along with good ball handling, regardless if your slow or lack athletecism, it makes the defender respect 2 aspect of your game and makes you become difficult to guard. Just keep practicing on jumpshot and ball handling and you shouldn’t have a problem scoring.

HaleParticipantI don’t have a big problem scoring now, but my jump shot isn’t consistent and I have to take on more of a scoring load. So other then improving my jumper I need to find more/better ways to attack.

NYCrealdealParticipantif your a gaurd perfecting a floater or teardrop is something that can change your whole game you could drive to the bucket more confidently knowing you can just throw it over the big guys hand
adding a spin move is great to cuz people dont use it that much and defenders dont usually know how to react to it lol

ilike.panochasParticipantStudy videos of some of the best players that attack the Rim.
Westbrook, Rose, Paul, etc. Just study them and see what their doing and why it’s so easy for them to drive. To me, it’s not so much of being faster/quicker than the defender, but deception. Try to learn how slow down and when to use your burst (change speeds), CP3 is the master of this. Study his game and try to incorporate it to yours, try to keep the defender off balance by changing speeds when your penetrating.

IndianaBasketballParticipantWork on your jab steps, ball fakes, etc. Get your basic fundamentals down and you’ll have no problems.

IndianaBasketballParticipantYea… Change of pace is a huge deal.
I have this one move I do where I go full speed at the defender, but then I slow down and take it through my leg… But literally as soon as it goes through my leg and into my other hand, I EXPLODE to the rim or pull up for the mid-range jumper.
I just combine that logic with like every single one of my moves.

IndianaBasketballParticipantMaster your footwork.
When I watch players in the NBA, I look at their FEET. I look at the way they pivot and just how many steps they take. Have you ever just watched Kobe’s feet? Or Manu’s feet? Or Wade’s feet? Those dudes can get any shot they want because they have amazing foot work. They’ve mastered all of their pivots, jabs, etc.
So learn your pivots. Right front. Left front. Right reverse. Left reverse. And be able to jab with either foot going either direction.
I actually stole this move from Chris Thomas (Notre Dame) when he played HS Ball at Pike. He’d have the ball and jab right… However he’d fake the ball left, right, left and then just explode to the right… That sh*t works like every time. I’ve seen Kobe do it in the NBA. Master that move going either direction and that’ll definitely free you up.

HaleParticipantThanks guys, this should definitely help. If you can think of anything else, feel free to post your thoughts.

omar dayzeParticipantBE able to finish with your weak hand…
on that note is it odd that Al Jefferson, with one of the finer post games in todays league almost never uses his left hand? I say almost as although I havent witnessed it myself, dudes gotta have at least 2 points with it! Just seems strange to me especially seeing as hes a below the rim player.
but yea, anyway, work on your left (i assume lol). left layups, reverses, runners, tougher bank angles like manu, nash-kinda scoops, gettin your body in the way and finishing left like D-Rose… you might not hit every one of em but it will definitely expand your options and you can surprise yourself.

goneParticipantUtilize every mistake your defender makes like If you pump fake and the defender jumps lean in get the contact. Also when you drive to the rack go into the defender but focus on makin the shot. Basically what I’m saying is get to the ft line

Michael.S.ParticipantJust get as close as you possible can to his body and breeze by him…

delfamParticipantI feel the pump fake is underused, especially when driving to the hole. Watch Andre Miller for a whole game, he isn’t the fastest player but with his good change of pace and pump fake he scores in the paint.
I saw work on your free throw shooting, your pump fake, and changing speeds, and you’ll get into the lane and get fouled and score at least 6 more points a game without even trying.
