I know this is not the basketball Naismith invented, but I have nothing wrong with physical play, as long as it is not intentionally harmful to the person you are playing against. Blake’s elbows were punk moves and Andre got him back. Happens a lot, know from experience. Usually I would be against doing the same negative action a person has done to you, but on the basketball court, I think it is sometimes necessary. Griffin got two elbows in. Also, Rudeboy, obviously Blake was slightly fazed, as the video says he did not elbow Andre for the rest of the game. I have no problem with what Blake did, it is a punk move but it happens when you grind for boards, but it just shows what a bad @ss Andre Miller is. That guy is a crafty vet and a winner, so slept on.

Blake,Wade,Lebron would dunk less if the NBA played with the same rules as back in day with

    Oakly

    Xavier Mcdaniel

    Anthony Mason

They would still get dunks but it would be less and they would think twice about getting in that lane. It would also make for much better Posters because that would make the dunk much more spectacular

i didnt see no elbows. blake griffin was pushing him in the back which happens all the time in basketball at every level and is not called nearly enough. HOW DID ANDRE NOT GET CALLED FOR 40 YARD DASH BODY CHECKING BLAKE???        these refs suck but typical fixed nba ref

If Andre, a 6’3" guard, wants to stay in the paint and crash the boards with bigger guys, then he should expect to get pushed around.

If you look at the end, it looks like Andre was about to blast him again as Blake turned the corner to the baseline before he lost the ball.  Much respect to Miller!  That was great!  Teach the Rook not to mess with an old timer.

Andre deserved a suspension? I personally do not, it happened but it was not life threatening and Griffin was fine enough to get up and walk around with no effects. It was not like he was in the air or could have fallen on something or somebody, plus Blake gets off scot free? Seems a little ridiculous personally. I think the NBA is still a very physical league, and as much as older players will say fouls are called more loosely than "back in the day", these guys are still fighting each other play after play, just as much as ever. Basically, unless the foul was dangerous or meant to inflict pain, I have no idea why a suspension should be handed down. Surely for a play that the referees did not even notice at the time, it should not result in a penalty. What are other peoples take? I think it let Griffin get away with a couple dirty plays and than gave Miller the brunt of it for trying to stop it. The refs were dictating the style of the game, and did nothing to stop it, so why should Andre be punished for trying to do something about it? I usually would not be for this kind of play where he kind of straight up tackles him, but I feel like this was not worth a suspension. Glad the Blazers at least won in his absence.

No Andre did not deserve it.  It was a stupid move from the league.  From what I gather, the refs saw or knew what happened at the scene of the crime and decided to let them play.  So if anything, the league should penalize the refs for not calling the foul when it happened.

Usually, when a player goes flying 10 feet, the refs see it. wonder what happened there…

Yea… Andre Miller DEFINITELY deserved a suspension. The refs missed the two personal fouls on Griffin, but what Griffin did happens about 20 times per basketball game. What Miller did was intentional and unecessary. Think if Griffin was to intentionally get a running start and push Miller…

      —————————————————————————————————————–

And you’re basing that on what an internet video flashed on the screen? Did you actually watch the game? Did Griffin not engage in other chippy action for the rest of the game. To be fair there was also only another 7 mins in the game. Do you actually think Griffin was so intimidated by that body check that he played passively for the rest of the game?

I’m all for a legal hard foul or telling Griffin about it… But getting a running start and just charging into someone’s back is definitely unecessary… Which was why he was suspended. And at the end of the day, all that happened was his consecutive games streak got ended.

i agree with the suspension. Thats a clear suspension in my book. But i still have no problem with andre doing it. Griffin shoved him on back to back plays and he sent a message.

I have a problem with it.

First… This video doesn’t show the punishment that Griffin took all game from Pryzbilla, Camby and Aldridge. Those two pushes during rebounding that Griffin got in vs Miller happens a ton of times per game in the NBA. It was nothing malicious. What Miller did was malicious. Getting a running start and charging into somebody’s lower back like that could’ve caused an injury.

I’m all for sending a message with legal hard play, but I don’t agree with that at all.

lots of intentional fouls can be dangerous. I cant even remember all the clotheslines, two handed shoves while a guys in the air, swinging elbows i have seen. Nobody wants to see anyone get hurt. BUt when someone is getting away with something, then send a meesage. If someone was hacking griffin and he took exception and blasted someone into the first row, i wouldnt have a problem with that either. Its not smart money/suspension wise. but when refs dont call things, players got to stick up for themselves. Those shoves by griffin were legit 2 handed shoves to the back of a player

and i think part of it was becasue they were on back to back plays. Its one thing if it happens once in a half or something, but on back to back plays he probably was thinking griffin was doing it intentionally.

I just don’t like the idea of reviewing and suspending.  I have no problem if a whistle is called right then and there and refs ejecting Miller.  Fine, life goes on.  But to have the refs "let em play" and then to slap a suspension after the game is played…. thats just lame.

Plenty of stuff happens during the game.  A hard screen, pushing, shoving, biting, punching someone in the nuts.  In the context of what happened here ( with Blake being a real pest back to back plays ), I say just let it go or fine Miller.  But suspension is not fair IMHO.

refs miss stuff and something deliberate is done like what andre did, then absolutely the league has the right to review it and make whatever punishment they feel is neccessary.

I don’t have a problem with the league reviewing the game and suspending Miller. They also review games and take away technicals, reduce flagrant fouls, etc as well.

They’re trying to keep the game clean, and what Miller did wasn’t clean at all. You just can’t expect to get away with something as malicious as that. Griffin got away with a couple of pushes, but they weren’t anything unordinary. Pushes/nudges in the back during rebounds happens dozens of times per game.

Of course those "nudges" happen during the game.  But so do hard contacts.  Its just that Miller was not so subtle about it.  Hard blindsided screens can cripple you for a game, but according to you they are not malicious because it is legal.  Whatever.  Also, bigs run back on defense and "stop" all of sudden so they can hit the offensive player running down to the box.  These hard hits happen all the time as well.  As I said, Miller did not go about it subtly.

I would rather have someone hit me hard like Andre did, then to push me in the back throughout the game FWIW.

Deserve to be ended by that? Especially on a play that: 1) The refs did not even amount to much at the time and 2) The player was completely uninjured. Tezo, to say that "all that happened was his consecutive games streak was ended", may not seem like a big deal to you, but I think it is a pretty big deal. When someone has been as much of an iron horse as Andre Miller, that should be rewarded. Fine him, give him a warning, but do not break up his streak over that play. He obviously has been a model citizen, he has no history of maliciously hurting players, he just was tired of a freaking bull poking his horns into his back. The play all in all was unneccessary by Andre, but not to the point that he deserved to have his games played streak broken, that is so bogus. I mean, I just think the suspension sucks all the more since the guy had played in 639 straight games, you do not do that to somebody for a play like that. Fine him, say it was a flagrant 1, but do not suspend him to break that streak, that SUCKS.

The point I was making by saying, "and at the end of the day, all that happened was his consecutive games streak got ended" was that what Miller did wasn’t worth it and nothing good came out of it.

He could’ve fouled Griffin hard, got in his face or shoved him back in a similar manner… He could’ve argued with the ref and picked up a technical. He didn’t have to get a running start and explode into Griffin’s back. It was an obvious suspsension. What Miller did deserved more than just a warning and the league was right by taking action.

Andre called the league soft after his suspension, which is hypocritical because he can’t take a few little pushes in the back, but yet he blatantly runs, sprinting at least, into Blake’s blindside as payback. Irony I’d say… At least Blake’s act was in context to what was happening in the game, unlike Andre’s bull rush.

the announcers tonight for the tnt game between portalnd and orlando kept going on about how what andre did was no different then what fisher did in the 2009 playoffs when he checked scola. They even showed replays of it and they were saying its not fair for andre since fisher wasnt suspended. Actually fisher was suspended. You would think they would do a tiny bit of research about that before showing old replays and going on about it on television.
