Tha_PrinceParticipantThe Orlando Magic have engaged the Washington Wizards in an ongoing trade dialog centered around Wizards shooting guard Gilbert Arenas, Orlando Pinstriped Post has learned.
What Orlando would send Washington in return for the three-time All-Star is less clear, but the proposed deal likely includes shooting guard Vince Carter, according to a source.Wizards big man Andray Blatche, Magic forward Rashard Lewis, and Magic center Daniel Orton could also be involved. Both teams have a mutual understanding of what the trade might include, the source says, and it’s unclear what factors are holding up the trade.
What is clear around the league, however, is that Magic President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith has his eye on Arenas. If Orlando is to make a major trade this season, Arenas will likely be the target

mgreener_34ParticipantThere’s no way the Wizards are giving up Blache for an aging superstar. They would have to get a little more in return because Carter just isn’t the same player he used to be.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIt helps John Wall.
Blatche is a lazy player that takes too many shots and Gilbert is a distraction for Wall in Washington.
Now you get Carter who doesn’t shoot that much at this stage of his career and you get Lewis who spreads the floor so that Wall can drive into the lane.

Counting StarsParticipantIF this goes down, and that’s a big if, I think the Wizards should try to get Gortat. He’s not going to get the minutes he deserves playing behind Howard.
The Magic should be cautious about big trades. Messing with solid team chemistry hasn’t worked out great for the Hornets so far.

WizardofOzParticipantI’ve heard these ruumors too. As a Wizards fan, I don’t really like it. I love Gil, but he has a HUGE contract and the Gil for Carter swap would give us HUGE cap flexibility. Gil is one of my favorite players, but if the Gil-for-Carter swap were to happen, I wouldn’t be mad about it. That’s not really the part of the deal I don’t like. The part of the deal that I don’t like is giving up Andray Blatche & acquiring Rashard Lewis. Rashard Lewis is an aging, declining superstar who makes over twice as much money as Blatche for one year less. That kind of deal just isn’t worth it for a rebuilding team. Also, Lewis is a jump-shooting "power" forward who doesn’t rebound. I hear so many people complainin about the Wizards having too many finesse big men and the frontcourt needing more toughness, but this wouldn’t fix the problem, it would just add to it. Sure, Blatche a lot of times doesn’t give maximum effort and is lazy sometimes, but he is talented, young, and obviously coming into the season the front office thought he was a big man of the future for this team because the extended him. There’s no excuse with poor effort, but people forget that he broke his foot in the offseason and hadn’t played basketball in 3 months, which also prevented form staying in shape. He looks noticeable slower and has no lift to his game right now, which is affecting him on offense and defense. The Wizards should give him some time. He has also been battling some injuries early in the season.

Toronto16ParticipantWhy would 2 division rivals do a blockbuster trade like this?

NashyMingParticipantIf I am the Wizards GM, there’s no chance I would take on Rashad Lewis’ terrible contract. Gilbert Arenas got a bad contract but at least he can still put up good numbers. Rashad Lewis’ contract is even worse and he is just a 3 pt shooter nowadays. If the Wizards would trade Arenas, it would be for Vince Carter’s expiring.
Andray Blatche is indeed not exactly someone you would want with a young rebuilding team due to his personality, but he was signed at a reasonable contract for what he can produce and he’s actually acting much better than expected. It would be stupid for the Wizards to also give up Blatche in this trade. I doubt it’s gonna happen. With Arenas playing pretty well recently, I think his trade value is higher than low picks from the Magic and Vince Carter’s expiring.

stanford hoopsi think i like the trade. i always laugh when someone says a player is a distraction. that is completely false. these guys dont let off the court things liek that effect on the court. Most of the players have grown up in rough areas and have friends who do things much worst then there teammates do but it doesnt distract them from playing.
Its not like these young players are nuns andgo from game to church to home then repeat the process the next day. These guys play ball go out drink some smoke weed and bang groupies. They play through pain, marriage troubles, death in the family so i never buy into the distraction of something that a teammate does

HitsterParticipantWashington would be taking on potential luxury tax by taking both Carter and Lewis but if they want Arenas out and may not be happy with Blatche as their was the incident with Coach Saunders last year then they may figure they can save money longer term as Arenas and Blatche combined have nearly $90 million on their contracts after this season and Lewis has under $46 million due from 2011 to 2013 with expiring value in his last year.
The bigger danger may be with Orlando tinkering with a fairly successful side as Washington ripped it apart last year and then gained Wall, minus Arenas they may struggle again but Eddie Grunfeld would have a great trading chip with Carter’s contract and if they end up lottery again then they could add a nice piece alongside Wall. Movimg both Blatche and Arenas frees up FA moves sooner and with Arenas out of the way then a few decent stars may consider playing on a team with Wall in situ.

AllDayyyParticipanti dont see how its possible to take back both lewis and carter’s contracts. that lewis contract was/is sooo bad. if the zards can swindle magic into taking Gil for Vince I think it’s a no brainer.

OhCanada-ParticipantIf I was Orlando I would definitely relent from doing ths deal. The chemistry of an NBA Basketball team is so fragile and it looks like they are going to end up making a trade similar to the Iverson, Billups deal except they dont lose money add it.
What I think Orlando is trying to accomplish is trading Rashard Lewis and retrieving Gilbert Arenas, which would be a good trade if Washington can somehow find a home for Andray Blatche. Of course Washington is not satisfied with the fact that Arenas is not helping them win and is also holding back Walls progression. Blatches horrible attitude is also effectious so they maybe trying to completly rid of the teams bad attitude guys.
Maybe JJ Redick, Rashard Lewis, Daniel Orton, 1st Round Draft Pick, for Andray Blatche, Gilbert Arenas…
That trade would open up oppurtunity inWashington for Wall, Young, Booker (who shows a physical presence that is effective and underutilized)…also open up oppurtunity for Bass to play more in Orlando.
