llperezLet me preface this by saying this has absolutely nothing to do with me being a kobe fan. This could have been ANY pro athlete and i would feel this is ridiculous.
Here is a clip from todays 1st and 10 where all 3 hosts put kobe on blast for his participation in the recent Call of Duty Black ops comercial.
Here is the video game comercial for those who havent seen it:
Now here are some of their comments about kobe’s participation in this comercial:
“I was genuinely shcoked at what I was watching”
“It was jaw dropping”
“I was floored and bothered by his presence in that comercial”
“this qualifies as the all-time ‘what were you thinking’ moment”
“Does kobe really need this money this badly?”
“doesnt he(kobe) have a couple of daughters the last time I checked?”
“it’s completely out of bounds”
“when the face of your league participates in that ad with that gun in his hands, the commisioneer has to move on this”
“this is classic nba hypocrisy”
“well Im offended by it and Im sure a bunch of NBA fans will be offended by it”
Here is the actual espn segment:
All I have to say is wow. It never crossed my mind for one second that people would make a big deal about this. ANd to call out how kobe has daughters and how can he do this when he has children, just unbelievable.

delfamParticipantI saw that to and thought it was ridiculous, and I’m from Philly and we hate Kobe over here. I think Skip even though David Stern should fine him.
First off it’s not illegal to own guns so I don’t know what the big deal is, and second off its a fricken video game, everyone knows it’s for fun and not real, I actually thought the commercial was cool when I saw it.

HaleParticipantI never really liked the commercial. But it is completely ridiculous to say him doing it was inappropriate. Like for this to be an issue at all is truly baffling to me.

llpereznobody even dies in the commercial. Its clearly pointing fun at how average people can let their "inner soilder" out. If the people participating in this commercial should be called out, then any person who’s ever acted in a war movie are in the same boat.

NbanflguyParticipantI actually agree with them. Kobe is a role model and people look up to him and do what he does.
I am a huge Kobe fan and ever since i saw that commercial I have bought my own gun and fire at every car that passes me. "Kobe"!!! Last time i was arrested i just told them i saw it on tv.
This commerical is immorale and wrong, there is no reason that Kobe should allowed to pick the commercials he does. He should do nice commercial. My idea: team up with sarah mclachlan and help underprivledge animals.
haha this is insane. I am shocked that people are bothered by this.

nbaretroParticipantI understand where he’s coming from
-We glory over this commerical
when
-A year ago we were supposed to shun Gilbert Arenas for having a gun and making a gun like pose
While I don’t agree with Skip’s reasonings, I will say: Someone in the NBA should have said, Kobe- Don’t do this

llperezarenas brought a real life gun to an arena and who knows what went down after that with some reports saying he brandished it at a teammate. What kobe did was akin to playing a small role in tropic thunder with ben stiller. I really dont see the corelation.

NbanflguyParticipantYeah but one player fired a gun on tv for a video game commericial and the other pointed a gun at a teamate in the locker room and then joked about it on tv.
Call me crazy, but i think there might be a slight difference between them.

nbaretroParticipantThe NBA pretty much made it clear that the Gilbert Arenas gun thing would somewhat make the NBA "anti-gun". I remember hearing NBA people on radio shows and TV saying how they would be more tougher on gun issues because either ESPN or someone else reported like 45% of the NBA players carry/ have carried guns in the lockerroom.
If they have soften the approach on the guns thing, then I could understand it. Do I agree with them? Nope but for all the critism Gil got and then you hype this Kobe commerical looks a little wierd to me.

mikeyvthedonParticipantBefore this commercial came out! Leave it to 1st and Ten to jump on an f’ing moral high horse. Do you really think this commercial is that bad? I think David Stern coming down on Allen Iverson’s rap album was just preventing a national travesty which we had to face with Shaquille O’Neal, Cedric Ceballos and Dana Barros. When I saw the commercial, I will admit I was super surprised to see Kobe, and thought it was super dark, but it was kind of bad @ass. I mean, it is basically just pointing out that you play the soldier. Athletes however, should not play these kinds of games! The outrage! (Sarcasm) it appears that all three people on that show are way off base on this one. I am guessing this game isn’t sponsored by ABC/Disney, obviously. People, here is the kicker, IT IS A COMMERCIAL symbolizing a video game that is super popular! Popular enough in fact that I, as a person who does not play it, still know of its existence and know that I am in the minority for people in my general demographic. I also know athletes do in fact talk about and play those games, including, (gasp) NBA players! The Horror! Bottom line: Who cares ESPN? Just because Kobe didn’t do a freaking special when he was a Free Agent (sorry LeBron, I like you but trying to make a point) does not mean you have to rail on him for doing a commercial that was supposed to sell video games and be somewhat eye catching. Jimmy Kimmel is in it! This game encourages people to play video games, not use guns. Kobe fires a fake gun in a commercial, he did not bring a gat into a locker room, or shoot himself in the groin. Why is this a bad example? How is this hypocritical?
I think that Kobe really set the bad example when he decided to jump that Aston Martin. Why didn’t anyone talk about that dangerous stunt? All these kids looking at Kobe and getting nailed by cars, that guy who dressed in the Shaq jersey and tried to jump a BBQ! Kobe even dunked over a pool of snakes! SNAKES! Snake pool jumping dunk related injury risk is at an all-time high, thanks a lot Mamba!

mikeyvthedonParticipantI love that the dude (have no idea or real care who he is) says "Though he did get to kill Fidel Castro, which I guess is something that people find cool" than all of the sudden Skip Bayless (who I unfortunately do know) goes "Kobe did!?" OH NO! Not El Presidente! They told me they had armed guards around him at all time! Why didn’t I get the facial reconstructive surgery to be his body double! DAMN YOU KOBE! DAMN YOU AND YOUR CAPITALIST AMERICAN WAYS! Skip is such an over dramatic scumbag, who will never admit he is wrong even though it happens so consistently. Just a horrible person to watch and someone who gets mean out of the most mundane things. When there is a really slow news day, ESPN just goes to Skip and says, "Go nuts". Does it consistently, still makes it as stupid and boring as ever. In hell they play 1rst and 10 with Skip and Stephen A. 24 hours a day on ESPN.

mikeyvthedonParticipantKobe has no respect for our troops. Soldiers play this video game you idiot! Soldiers probably either think Kobe is a bitch already or would say "Man, if he were here, I’d kick his @ss in Call of Duty". It is fictional! When Kellen Winslow said "I am a soldier", he was someone on a mediocre Miami team who scored 1 TD his whole senior season and did the Heisman pose afterwards (Pretty sure it was against Louisiana Tech). You are damn right people were outraged, because he was clearly not a soldier and it was right at the start of a war. However, if Kellen had said "Just to clarify, I meant like in Call of Duty", it would have been fine. The slogan could easily be seen as offensive, I am sure it offends WW II vets and people who were in Nam, but what doesn’t? They get pissed when Janet Jackson flashed her nipple quickly enough for us to not even think she did it (I didn’t, until I saw it in super slo-mo or freeze frames, and personally thought it was awesome if it weren’t for Justin Timberlake drooling like a caveman) and they are also afraid of universal health care (maybe too political, I will stop). There will always be Skip Bayless’, I know that, but do they have to be on ESPN? Can’t he just have the show after Glenn Beck? Or would Fox news be happy if Kobe shot Fidel Castro in the face? I don’t even know anymore!

SteroidParticipantLol. That is not the ending of the game. The game is much bigger than attempting to kill Fidel which happens in the very beginning of the game. No spoiler.
Concerning what they were saying in the vid, I know have a lot of friends in the military who play CoD. That is their choice of game, so what Skip said about that is beside the point. I’m sure none of them would be offended by the commercial. Skip is just being hypersensitive and overreacting. And to compare the Colorado incident to this commercial is insane!

Chicago1980ParticipantSkip Bayless is a joke he just wants to be portrayed as a bad guy because I guess it is better to be not liked than liked he is just like Colin Cowherd they take a stance that is ridiculous so that people will talk about them. I dont even like kobe and i never even thought about anything negative when i saw the commercial I actually thought it was a good commercial that shows you never know who is playing the game pretty good to me. But old people that want their voices heard always have something negative to say.
