Johnny KilroyParticipantThe Boston Celtics pounded the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, and messages sent from Charlie Villanueva‘s Twitter account indicate Kevin Garnett may have made it personal.
One of the tweets says: "KG called me a cancer patient, I’m pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he’s tossing it like it’s a joke."
Garnett is known for his trash talking on the court. Villanueva suffers from alopecia universalis, a medical condition that results in hair loss. The Pistons forward does not have hair on his head.
Another tweet from Villanueva’s account says that Garnett’s alleged comments hit home.
"I wouldn’t even trip about that, but a cancer patient, I know way 2 many people who passed away from it, and I have a special place 4 those," the message reads.
Garnett scored 22 points and had six rebounds in the Celtics’ 109-86 victory. Villanueva had 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the winless Pistons. But Villanueva, if he indeed sent the messages from his account, would like to take the battle off the court.
"KG talks alot of crap, he’s prob never been in a fight, I would love to get in a ring with him, I will expose him," another tweet on the Villanueva account reads.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThat was a below the belt shot by KG, but I’m sure there have been worse things said on the court… I wouldn’t want every player tweeting everything that’s said to them on the basketball court.

the microwaveParticipanti read that as well, and if CV isnt just causing a stir it leaves a real sour feeling with me.. Having lost my mother to metastatic breast cancer, and having other family members who have gone thru the cancer fight, there are just some things you do not poke fun at..
assuming true – KG has no class..

the microwaveParticipantwhat is worse than making fun of cancer? I mean it does not get much worse than that..any example of something that could be worse said on the court, let me know..
Other than making fun of someone dying (which is also classless), this might top the charts.

IndianaBasketballParticipantCancer isn’t anything to laugh at or joke about, but it’s been done in the past. By comedians, rappers, etc.
I’ve heard plenty of people get told they look like a cancer patient when they have a bald head, got a messed up low hair cut or maybe just got their braids cut off for the first time. It’s not literally to make fun of cancer patients. Who’d do that? Who’d literally make fun of people who’ve died from cancer?
Regardless… It was below the belt by KG considering Charlie’s disease. There are a lot of awful things said on the court. I think that’s where they should stay.

llperezi agree with what indiana is saying if it werent the fact that charlie himself is suffering from a skin disease that casuses his appearance. Its not like a bad haircut or somehting. ALthough we dont know the context of how it was said, but considering charlie’s response, it probably wasnt 2 guys joking around.

IndianaBasketballParticipantPeople have joked about terrible things for years. I forget what it’s called when people do that.
I was so skinny in high school, they said I was anorexic (spelling?). I don’t think they were literally making of fun of anorexic people. I’ve seen really light skinned guys get told they looked like Michael Jackson, who had the skin disease. To be honest… That "you look like a cancer patient" jone is old where I come from.

HitsterParticipantKG has always been regarded as a humble guy despite his achivements but to make cancer jokes was below the belt. I’d guess a lot gets said on court, no doubt LeBron will get jokes about Delonte West for example or Gilbert Arenas for being in jail but where to draw the lines between trash talking and obsenities is always a thin line.
Mohammed Ali always trash talked his opponents for example he always called Joe Frazier a gorilla on numerous occasions. There have been numerous details of humerous trash talks from sports I’ve heard over the years but a lot of what is said will always remain private.
The one I liked was where MJ would tell his opponent exactly what move he would make, he’d then do it knowing the opponent was probably unable to stop it!

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantCharlie wins. KG can’t really fight. That’s why he’s only had success on picking on people smaller than him and international players. Anthony Peeler and Lamar Odom exposed him already.

McDunkinI see it like this
Yes it was an awful thing for KG to do but he hasnt even tried to hide his ash-hole tendencies on the court in recent seasons. I know Villanueva has been called worst then this by haters/opponents/plain idiots because of the condition he has loong before he even put on a UCONN jersey, and he has dealt with it without a complaint. I dont think there was a reason for him to run to Twitter and let everyone know about it.
If there wasnt Twitter what would he have done? Bring it up in a press conference? He should have just used this to play harder against KG the next time they match up.
jnixon murdered me on Facebook for challenging K-States ability and i haven’t had the courage to log in since, but i didnt tweet about it.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantExactly, I’m sure there are WAAY worst things said on a court. I know a football player, who used to find out who he was going to be matched up with at the line in their next game, look them up on MySpace or Facebook, find out who they were dating, who their sisters are, who their mom is.. And he would talk TRASH at the line

TooNice4TVParticipanthow does calling someone a cancer patient have anything in common or any relevance to saying "cancerous to your team or the league?" If charlie v called out his best friend that got shot, and said that "you’re just a bad guy to hang around with in the league" as an apology, KG would lose his mind. I’d love to see KG get his ass beat. No one heard him opening his mouth when he was on the wolves.

llperezyeah, im not sure about kg’s response. FOr those who didnt read it:
“I am aware there was a major miscommunication regarding something I said on the court last night," Garnett said in a statement from his representatives released by the Celtics. "My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact, ‘You are cancerous to your team and our league.’ I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball. Later ni**az."

IndianaBasketballParticipantIt’s all he said he said… I believe KG. I don’t think he said "You are cancerous to your team and our league" in those exact words. He probably said it like, "You’re overpaid and you’re a cancer to your team. Earn your pay check you soft ass. As a matter of fact, you’re a cancer to OUR league."
Like Jon Barry said… What goes on on the court STAYS on the court.
IF anything, this just proves to me how SOFT Charlie is. He didn’t do anything when KG supposedly said it. Instead he waited after the game to "tweet" it. Come on… Charlie just needs to earn his money.

TooNice4TVParticipantLet’s be all damn realistic here.
He called Charlie V a cancer patient, even with his condition. I mean it’s like us telling each other "jokes" about a mother, when yet they didn’t know that the other person lost their mother.
And KG even has the GUTS to reply with that garbage? I honestly feel no ways for him anymore. Cancer isn’t a joke, and many amazing people struggle to fight for their lives. If he really believes that he would never say something like that, then why open your damn mouth with the word cancer, ESPECIALLY to someone who has a disease.
KG is the most unprofessional, pathetic athlete I know. Hell, him taking a cheap shot like this is like an OJ Simpson.
If I ever met KG, I’d truly let him know that he’s a pathetic friend for not being with his own best friend the night of his birthday party and making sure that he was alright till the end of the night. F KG that heartless bastard. He should never be able to grace the commercial of "Read to Achieve".

Yeah, like KG would just shoot the free throw without a response

JNixonParticipantAnyone who believes Kevin Garnett said "you are a cancer to your team" in the middle of a NBA basketball game is naive.

ChrispyParticipantIf that is what KG said it is a "punchable offense" in my book. Just hit im and walk away. KG, for his part, denies saying that so who knows. That said, some things you just don’t say. Reminds me of Mad Maxwell punching the fan for talking about his wife’s miscarriage- had it coming.

TooNice4TVParticipantkeep the negatives coming, seems like some people here who aren’t in the league care about the game more than life hahaha, what a joke.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWhat happens on the court stays on the court, but if it bothered Charlie so much and he really wants to fight KG, why didn’t he do anything on the court?
He had to act like a girl and go home and cover himself in his favorite soft blanket, with his teddy bear, grab his Barbie laptop, and tweet it.
If somebody said something I don’t like, I go up to them, not go home and put it on Facebook or MySpace or Twitter. Be a man Charlie V. This is why you’re soft, the only chance you get to get rid of this "soft" tag and finally stepping up to KG, and you run away with your tail between your legs and call your girlies and vent to them.
