BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantHighly touted Kansas freshman Josh Selby has been cleared academically by the NCAA, but his amateur status is still under review, according to a news release sent out by the school on Wednesday.
“Josh’s status for competition hasn’t changed," Self said in the release. "We will not play Josh in games until that process is complete and a decision is rendered.
“We support and respect the process, and hope that it is over sooner rather than later. But we don’t expect a decision on this before the regular season begins. We will not comment further until the process is complete.”
According to multiple reports over the last few months, the NCAA is looking into Selby’s relationship Robert "Bay" Frazier. Frazier is the business manager for Nuggets All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony, who, like Selby, is a Baltimore native. Selby acknowledged that Frazier was acting as an adviser during his recruitment.
If Selby misses regular season action, it’s unlikely the Jayhawks — ranked No. 4 in Sporting News’ preseason poll — would really need him until Dec. 7 when Kansas takes on Memphis. The Tigers are the No. 12 team in Sporting News’ preseason poll.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantHe isn’t cleared to play yet. It was a two-part delay, now it is just his relationship with Frazier. Self also said he doesn’t expect Selby to be cleared before the Jayhawk opener.
