    D. Rose (speed, strength, vert all working together better. I mean come on, hes had shoulders like that since he was a freshman at Simeon.)

    D. Rose again for the same reason.

Ill give it to Dwight by a slight margin. VEEEERRYY SLIGHT!

Lebron. This one is another slight margin imo. (he gets the edge because of his strength. although Mike still did some amazing things at 6’6 190, blocks, steals, dunks…. you know the story lol)

Melo, without question. I have to actually see Beasley run up AND down the floor before I consider him athletic lol

westbrook- not the popular pick but the more i see him play the more i think he is a 6ft 3 version of lebron.

drose- i think they are close but i think rose is a better leaper

dwight- its tough but i think this is the case for most of todays players in that they are more athletic but not as fundamentally sound.

lebron- most imposing athlete in the history of the nba.

melo- because i think he is quicker and faster, leaping ability is close

Rose: Rose has more body control and is stronger. He’s a better overall athlete than Westbrook.

Rose: Wall is fast, but similar to Rose vs Westbrook, Rose is just the better overall athlete.

Shaq: We’ll never and I mean NEVER see another athlete like Shaq. Howard can jump higher (Shaq was no slouch) and run faster, but he doesn’t have the strength and fluidity that Shaq had. Add in the fact Shaq was 7′ 1" 325 lbs.

LeBron: IF LeBron weren’t 6′ 8" 250 lbs, I’d choose Jordan. However, LeBron’s size combined with his freak athleticism is what makes him one of a kind.

Melo: Neither player is an elite athlete, but Melo is stronger, quicker and more explosive.

I think with Mj and Lebron at 23, we are looking at power vs finesse. At 23, I believe Mike was averaging in the 30s, getting about 2.5 steals, a block and highlight after highlight. He was finessing it into the basket. Lebron had similar stats and he was getting the ball in by powering it in. I went to the stats on this one. Plus i might be a taaaaaaaad biased, seeing as how Im from Chicago lol

yeah, but stats really only says so much when discussin athleticism. Shannon brown is a better athlete then brandon roy. You could argue jordan or lebron, but lebron just blows me away athletically as any wing i have ever seen play the game. His heads above the rim on some dunks and his first step is like he is shot out of a cannon.

Mike would rise up on LEGIT 7 footers at 23 himself. Doing so while getting banged up by some serious defense. Lebron has folks bouncing off of him lol. I think its way too close. Remember, we are talking about these 2 at 23, if im not mistaken.

LeBron is such a special athlete. He’s strong… 6′ 8" 250… Long… He covers so much ground. And that left leg of his is unreal.

Jordan was a monster too though lol. He could explode off of one or two feet. He had a combination of grace and power. He had amazing hang time and just that ability to do amazing shit in the air. Jordan was a more creative athlete than LeBron. LeBron is powerful, but Jordan was that breathtaking type of athlete.

i know its hard to say jordan was not as good as anyone at anything. as great of an athlete as jordan was, lebron would be the most athletic player in any sport he played because of his speed and size and strength and jumping ability. think about 6 foot 8 255lbs in football, with 4.4 40 speed and a 44 inch vertical. basically a bigger version of calvin johnson, sick. or in baseball where rookie sensation jason heywerd of the braves stands 6 foot 6 250 with solid speed. lebron would be a taller faster heywerd.

and as chris rock said, as soon as they make a heated rink, lebron could take over hockey, lol.

russell westbrook or drose- Westbrook probably has better pure speed, but Rose is better at every other dimension of athleticism.

drose or john wall- See above.

a 23 year old shaq or dwight- I’ll say Howard. I’m too younger to give an opinion on a 23 year old Shaq, but Howard is as freakish as they come at his size.

michael jordan at 23 or lebron- Lebron. Lebron is probably the most athletic player to ever play basketball. Definitely the best I’ve ever seen.

carmelo or mike beasely- Carmelo. He’s quicker and more explosive laterally and vertically. Beasley is more smooth, but he’s not a better pure athlete.

No, I don’t think Westbrook would look like LeBron if he were 6′ 8" lol. LeBron isn’t normal. You don’t see too many players 6′ 8" and carry 250-260 lbs like LeBron does. LeBron is a physical marvel. He’s a once in a lifetime athlete.

Westbrook is an amazing athlete though… Super quick first step and he gets off of the floor quick…

Physically, Lebron is a bigger stronger faster Jordan with equal body control, a better left hand, and a worse right hand. Michael Jordans right hand was the Hand of God. If you aren grabbing his right wrist he will get the shot off, from some crazy angle, and it will go in. I’ve never seen anyone more dominant without having to use his left to shoot.

And Shaq at 23 was 3 inches taller, 40 pounds heavier, could get up and down the court just as well as Dwight, and had a 36 inch vert. Thats what, 2 inches less than Dwight? Shaq, Wilt and Lebron were/are true athletic monstrosities of the NBA.

    1. Rose- size, strength, speed, and some of the best body control I’ve ever seen.

    2. Rose- same reason.

    3. Shaq- Until Dwight breaks a backboard, I gotta go with Shaq on this one. Dwight has a higher vertical, but that’s about it.

    4. LeBron- The most athletic person to ever play professional sports…period.

    5. Melo- quickness & strength.

Westbrook or Rose- Rose.  Good call on the guy who said body control.

Rose or Wall – Close we’ll find out more after this year but going with Rose.

A 23 year old Shaq or Dwight Howard – I’ll take Shaq did you guys actualy see him play at 23?  He used to score 40pts on Ewing running all over the court on him can Dwight score that on anyone.  Also Shaq was a decent shot blocker too.  He led his team to the Finals and played Olajuwon better than David Robinson did that year.

Jordan at 23 or Lebron – Lebron becaz he was a 2 sport player in high school and many have said he would’ve been a dominant NFL player as well I know that was when he was younger.  MJ was the better finisher, dunker more elusive but easier being at a much lower weight.  I wouldn’t say Lebron is the most athletic player to every play sports, your forgetting some sick boxers and Football players that are crazy athletic and closer to his size.  You could say Lebron is the most athletic person to ever play sports for his size or play in the NBA.  Some of what Lebron does isn’t pure athleticism either passing, ball handling, post up which is rare for him, jump shots yeah he does take them.

The hand of God comment was just stupid.

    Carmelo or Beasely- Melo.

Great call on Julius Peppers he’s a freak athletic at what 280 for a defensive end and he’s crazy agile.  Also he’s going up against guys that are well over 300 lbs.  Lebron for the most part is going up against just SF’s who are much smaller than him, the closest player physically at SF is Artest and hez no where near the same athlete.

    I agree with Dolla.

Rose – Best combination of speed, leaping ability, and quickness with the ball in the league.

    Rose

Shaq – In terms of leaping ability it’s probably pretty close, but Shaq was much stronger.

Lebron – Probably the most athletic player in NBA history.

Beasley – Still a good prospect if he can keep his head on straight.  It’s close, but Melo isn’t really an elite athlete.

You have to think Carmelo has gotten more athletic since he was in college. I’ve never liked when people pull up combine results for guys who have been in the NBA for a long time, especially guys that are in or entering their prime. He’s been training with pro strength and conditioning people for the past 7 years or so, and he’s noticeably slimmer and quicker than he was at Syracuse. You have to believe he’s gotten more athletic since he was in college.

I didn’t mean to put LeBron as the best athlete to ever play pro sports, I meant pro basketball.

I know some football players(Vernon Davis, Julius Peppers, Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson) and Boxers(Roy Jones Jr. in his prime) are superior athletes and are right up there

So why the comparison/who’s better argument at all? Is that comparison fair to Michael Beasley then who hasn’t even hit his prime yet if you’re going to bring the prime argument up? The only way the argument is fair is if you compare them both at the same points in their respective careers. Not one guy at his prime to another guy who hasn’t even had the chance to shine in the NBA while living in Wade’s shadow. That is like comparing a 26-27 year old D-Wade, in his prime, to Kobe Bryant who is past his athletic prime. Compare the D-Wade now to the Kobe Bryant at the same point respectively. Also, I’m sure Beasley’s athleticism is still there, and it’s not like he’s going to digress that much over that much time. If anything, he should become more athletic when his body matures more. That is the bad thing about comparing two guys who are in two different points in their career, and that is also the other side of the story you failed to bring up.

Combine results are practically useless in the NBA anyways

Derrick Rose-Stronger, just as fast, quick and can jump as high, but better overall

    Derrick Rose-see above

Shaq-The man was a beast in his prime, he was like 300lbs 7’1 and could run the court even he’s admitted if he had a better work ethic he could’ve been even better

LeBron-Yeah everyone already said how, unfortunately, this not even a contest

Carmelo-When watching both of them Carmelo seems like a superior athlete especially overall when looking at his strength but its closer than u think

Then why do the NBA waste so much money on having a combine?  It must be somewhat useful if organizations and scouts use it as a tool. There are a lot of great athletes in the NFL and NBA, but just because their athleticism doesn’t make them a great athlete in terms of basketball or just as good as another doesn’t mean they aren’t a good athlete in general, nonetheless… I’m sure there are a lot of players in the NFL and NBA that are more athletic than their pro-bowl, all-star/superstar peers, but it doesn’t translate into the sport they are playing as well as others thus making them seem less athletic. Measurables don’t equate into finding a good basketball/football player, but you can use measurables to find a good athlete. That’s all I’m saying…

I agree to a certain extent. But It is clear from watching Rose and Mayo play, that Rose is far more athletic. He dunks on people regularly and is far more explosive. There combine speed numbers were nearly identical, but it is also clear that Rose is among the fastest players in the NBA, while Mayo struggles to get into the lane because of his average quickness. And yet, they tested out the same.

I agree, the only way to say who’s more athletic at the same stage is to test them when they both are at the same stage.

Since they aren’t at the same stage and you can’t test it out, and since that wasn’t the point of what I was talking abhout (my point was it’s irrelevant to bring up combine stats for a guy who has been in the NBA for like 7 or 8 years and has gotten noticeably better in terms of conditioning), I still think Anthony is a better athlete than Beasley right now. Beasley doesn’t have a single advantage over Anthony athletically that I can think of, except if count being more fluid in his movements.

I voted Lebron because of what he is able to do at his size.  Jordan was probably comparable in terms of leaping ability and speed, but Lebron is clearly bigger and stronger.
