Melo could be headed to the Nets. This trade also involves Charlotte as well as Utah. Nets send rookie forward Derrick Favors and Utah sends forward Andrei Kirilenko to Denver, Devin Harris goes to Charlotte and Boris Diaw goes to Utah. I have questions abou this trade.

First of all, will Melo sign an extension with New Jersey even thourh they would be without their rookie with a ton of potential Derrick Favors and their main PG Devin Harris? Also, could Boris Diaw start at SF for Utah, with a lineup a like this: Williams, Miles/Bell, Diaw, Millsap, Big Al?

The more I think about it the more I dont want to give up Favors. I think they kid is really going to be something special. There is no guarantee and you know your getting a top 5-6 player in Carmelo Anthony so if it takes Harris and Favors so be it. What would be ideal is too just wait and sign him next summer but i do not see that happening. He will be traded to some team this offseason so if anybody wants him its going to have to be a trade.

i agree, i like the team they have right now and id like to see how they can develop…with favors and brook and harris this team would look even better to melo PLUS theyd be closer to playing in brooklyn…this feels like a rush job to get an established franchise face on the team for the russian…makes me sad as a nets fan

Horrible trade for NJ.  They traded away two nice young pieces for a malcontent?  Who is NJ’s PG now?

But the Nuggets would get a decent little deal out of it. Let’s face it, when a player is going to leave in free agency, you kind of take the best you can get. If indeed the Nuggets landed Favors and Kirilenko, it would be better than anything the Cavs or Raptors got in return. Still, I also have a hard time believing Melo will sign with a Nets team with them trading Harris, but they have some decent pieces, and Brook Lopez, plus I am guessing them moving to Brooklyn makes it slightly more appealing. Not only that, but Prokhorov would seem like an owner that is willing to make some big moves and spend a lot of money, plus they have a pretty nice cap situation that means they can add another piece. I think Melo is figuring that Denver can not get over the hump, they do not have the big guys and Chauncey Billups is no spring chicken. He is looking at what the other guys in his draft class did and knows that he has to make a counter move, and with the veterans and contracts in Denver, he will just not have the horses to do so. Still, I will be quite surprised if Melo agrees to go there and still think he really wants to end up in New York with a coach like D’Antoni and a PF like Amare Stoudemire to play beside. If Melo goes to New Jersey at this point, without Devin Harris, I do not see them being to different in the scope of the Eastern Conference than Denver already is in the West. Albeit, the likelihood of adding significant additions to their roster would be much better with the Nets cap situation. The Nets have been known as one of the more cursed franchises in basketball, all starting with their trading of Dr. J. If they get a player like Melo to recruit some players to play with he and Brook Lopez, they could be on to something, but at this point I would still have little idea how that team would be able to compete with the Heat or Lakers.

Here’s my breakdown on the trade

Charlotte: You get a young PG for Diaw? I like. That’s a steal because Ty Thomas could slip right into that spot. It makes me think however, if Charlotte knew this was on the table would they have kept Dampier?

Utah: Boris Diaw is capable to be a nice piece for the Jazz. To me, now Utah has to bring Fez back and it will be really interesting. I say it’s a good deal.

New Jersey: You win, you got Carmelo Anthony. He changes the outlook of the East.

Denver: I picked the best for last. The Nuggets get 2 1st round picks. Why is this good? Because wherever you moved Melo: You weren’t getting 2 lotto picks back. You can only hope for 2 high 20 picks. Why do I love this even more? AK47 is a monster exp contract who could be flipped in FEB to a playoff contender for a 1st round pick IMO.

Denver could go now and lose 49-60 games and get a top 4 pick and add a Perry Jones, Enes Kanter, Kyrie Irving or even the big fish in Harrison Barnes.

Hold on wait a hot dang minute….You guys realize we are talking about Carmelo Anthony right?  Who you Nets fans of done the trade if it was for Wade?  You do realize that Melo is 3 years younger, and more durable.  Carmelo Anthony was drafted to a Denver team that had one of the worse rosters I can possibly remember. I think they signed Andre Miller and had Camby who was still injury prone at the time and Melo as a rookie put the franchise on his back and carried them to the playoffs.  Melo was the third pick in the draft.  Do you Nets fan’s think that Favors is going to put your franchise on his back and lead them to the playoffs this year?  There should be no mistaken when we are talking about Carmelo Anthony we are talking about one of the top handful of players in our generation.  And he is just starting to peak!!!  Did you see the ESPN stat, who is the only players to have over 12,000 points, 3,000 rebounds, and 1,500 assists in his first 7 NBA seasons?  It is David Robinson, Michael Jordan. Karl Malone, Barkley, Paul Pierce, Lebron James, and ‘Melo.   That’s 4 hall of famers, 3 NBA champions, and LeBron.  It is not a stretch to say that Melo is on his way to the Hall of Fame is he stays healthy, he is one of the most dominant scorers to play this game in the last 25 years.

And I told you guys from the beginning that Devin Harris will be a part of the trade as well as he should be.  Harris is a scoring point guard.  If he was 2 inches taller there would be no doubt he would start at shooting guard and never even play point.  He become expendable when you bring Anthony into the fold.  Farmar by all accounts is a better passer and will be the starting 2 guard.  But since The Bobcats are getting Harris I’m wondering if the Nets can’t find a way to get DJ Augustine as part of the deal since he’s in Browns dog house anyway.  And knowing Larry Brown Harris will play a lot of time at 2 guard if they keep DJ.  Brown hates shoot first point guards.

Diaw would be a nice fit in Utah.  Remember sloans 4×4 offense requires everybody to be able to pass.  And Diaw is one of the best passing forwards in the world.  I think he would be a triple double machine again in Utah like he was in Phoenix.

And Harris I promise you will not be missed in NJ.  The only skillset that they would miss is his perimeter defense.  It’s not a stretch at all to say Terrence Williams can play point for stretches too.  And another thing I said is Murphy fits perfectly in between Melo and Lopez for a playoff run this year.  He is a good if not great outside shooter, and a great rebounder.  The Nets starting lineup would look like this:

    Farmar

    T-Will

    Melo

    Murphy

    Lopez

That’s a hell of a difference from last year and makes that Russian playboy look like he’s fulfilling prophecy.  Lopez gives you the post man you need to win, Murphy adds to the requisite size and rebounding championship teams need, T-Will gives you perimeter defense, passing, and all around versatility, and Farmar is the pass first point who can hit the 3 ball and defend, and Farmar has championship experience and 2 rings.  And yes he did contribute unlike Morrison who didn’t even dress.

    Knicksboy.

IDK if Denver would lose 60 games. I agree on the genral consensus of a win/win/win trade for all teams. I remember when Bosh was obviously leaving the Raptors andI was begging for Toronto to evn make a deal for Deng. This would have been a dream come true if Toronto traded for Favors, 2 1st rounders and a 17 million dollar expiring contract.

Charlotte becomes playoff material with this trade and honestly seems caable to compete even with Milwaukee for 5th, 6th spot in the East. Wy is it Charlottes players are basically all Fastbreak players yet they play the most controlled half court set. Browns gotta adapt…

Utah adds a good piecefor an injury plagued overpriced player and saves a load of cash. It may not seem like much but adding Bell, Diaw and jefferson would really makeup for their losses.

I agree with all you, I don’t like New Jersey involving their top PG in this trade, but if you think about it every team that wants Melo is going to have to offer at least one of their franchise players in order for the Nuggets to accept. So for the team that is involved you would have to decide which is the lesser of the 2 evils. I’m guessing they have a lot of faith in newly signed free agent Jordan Farmar. He was with the Lakers earlier, so he has that Championship experience to an extent. With more minutes he could really improve, but I don’t think he’s good enough to start, at least not yet. Also NJ just drafted Favors, and now you’re trading him?? Yeah, you get a top 5 player in Melo but just one top 5 player won’t help you get the championship. You may not even reach the playoffs with just one top 5 player (look at the Raptors when they had Chris Bosh) So NJ doesn’t even get to see how Favors turns out, if he in fact reaches his potential. If this trade goes through, they could one day be seriously regretting trading away Favors. If this trade goes through this could be the trade that declares whether or not Prokhorov was successful as the owner of the Nets.

For the other 3 teams its a win-win situation. The team that makes or brakes this deal is the team that gets Melo.

I’m really curious as to why Melo would want to join this team especially if they are losing Devin Harris? He must know something we don’t…

Diaw’s  game would be a nice fit in Utah’s offence. But I dont know if he is any better than AK. We might as well hold on to his 17mill contract intell seasons end and look to get a high caliber free agent.

THEY CAN JUST SIGN MELO WHEN HE HITS THE MARKET…AND FOR THE NETS TO TRADE HARRIS THEY MUST HAVE TWO PLANS IN MIND TO REPLACE HIM…

A.TANK THIS SEASON AND DRAFT ONE OF THE BEST PG’S IN THIS CLASS…OR…

B.KNOW IN THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS THAT CHRIS PAUL WILL HIT THE MARKET AND SIGN WITH THEM AND THE MELO/LOPEZ TANDEM….

Think about this Cody in SLC

Without Diaw, we have a severely overpaid player in AK who is not very reliable because of his injuries, and when he is healthy he is only half of all star form of 2006-2007. Half!!!
With Diaw, you have someone who could possibly play both forward spots. Can pass very well which is definitely necessary for the system Jerry Sloan runs. Diaw plays pretty good D, so Sloan would love him. He could possibly average a triple double in Points, Rebounds, and Assists. He would want to stay with Utah as well, while AK does not. (well thats not quite certain yet, but I don’t think he does)

So without Diaw you get a severely over-paid, good defender, okay passer, great shot blocker, okay 3pt shooter, and can play both forward positions. With Diaw, we get a good defender, a good passer, an okay shot blocker, a good 3pt shooter, an can play both forward positions for half the cost of AK. Which would you rather have, I’m going with Diaw.

Knowing Utah, we would only use that extra money from AK’s humongous contract on signing Ante Tomic, our draft pick from 2011, and maybe a middle class free agent. (Certainly not a big name free agent like you are suggesting) And I don’t know if you realize this but in order for this deal to go through Denver would have to send Nene to Utah. Do you know what this means….7 big men. How can the Lakers, let alone the rest of the league top that. (Diaw, Millsap, Big Al, Memo, Nene, Fez, Elson) This is definitely worth it.

So couple days ago Avery Johnson says Favors wasn’t offered in a deal now they include him, Harris and picks that doensn’t make sense.  Nets won’t win anything with Mello they have the worst backcourt in the league now.  Really makes paying Travis Outlaw an even dumber move now.

Great trade for the Nuggets, Bobcats and for the Jazz its a good deal as well.

Is this the Nets roster going into the preseason with?

    Farmar/ Ben Uzoh

    Terrance Williams/Antony Morrow/ Quinton Ross/ Damion James

    Mello/ Travis Outlaw/ Stephen Graham

    Murphy/ Joe Smith/ Kris Humphries/Sean May

    Lopez/ Petro

The reason i say keep on to AK isnt really because he is better than Diaw. His contract is to valuable, and he is still our best overall defender.

Great trade for nets only if they can get(one of the four) Billips, Ty Lawson(long shot), Dj Augustine, or Livingston i think will be a steal if the Bobcat of willing to give him up.

Because Farmer as your starting point guard aint going to cut it….i think T-Will is a better poing guard then he is.

you guys need to give farmar a chance. He had zero business fitting in that triangle. He had a very short leash under phil and every time the lakers struggled with him on the court, whether or not it was his fault, he got yanked. Why dont you guys think he can start?

I wanted Farmar for NYC. He’s gonna be good if you give him nice pieces. Melo and Lopez are solid pieces. He’s going to be alright next season.

I would start him. DJ Augustine has proven nothing. Farmar at least, shown he could be a valuable backup on a title team.
