Jeremy Tyler debuted yesterday in Tokyo, preseason

I think this was a good move for Jeremy, I don’t feel he’s ready to play at a high level in Europe, and he’ll have more of an opportunity to play minutes in Tokoyo. I still don’t know what I think of him as a prospect, I have a gut feeling he won’t amount to much but he has great physical tools.

but Japan is even worse than the Chinese league as far as competition goes. He could have a 50 point game in the BJ league and it really wouldnt mean anything compared to dropping even 20 in the Euroleague or D-League. I think this was one of the worst options for him. Im sure there was a low level european team willing to give him playing time despite the bad attitude he showed in the past

this guys whole nba future is beginning to go up in flames…. any guy that walks out midway through the season is a bum in my eyes, im not cheering for him actually im more or less rooting against him, he is arrogant and misinformed

Yeah Tyler does just seem extremely arrogant and it’s obvious that he’s not the franchise talent that scouts once thought he was. A franchise talent would never have the mental breakdown that Tyler went through. Look at what Jennings did, he is a perfect example of how the European experience should of went but then again Jennings is a franchise talent.

Regardless at the end of the day Tyler is 6’11, athletic, and can block shots so he will get drafted anyway but his best bet since he is already getting paid to play basketball is to wait and develop a few years before he enters. I highly doubt anybody risks a first round pick on him this year.

I completely disagree with you saying a franchise player can’t have a mental breakdown. It’s a different sport, but Ken Griffey Jr. attempted suicide at around the age Tyler is at now, and he is one of the greatest baseball players ever. Anyone can have a mental breakdown, stars aren’t immune to it. He is a young kid, he is going to make mistakes.

I completely agree. I also think that people change and become more mature. You are assuming that he will remain exactly as he is now at 18 for the rest of his life. I’m 18 right now, and I’d hate to think that no one will ever forgive me for relatively inconsequential mistakes that I make now.

I’m 18 as well and I’ve done stupid things in the past, everyone has. But I’m still young. Like you said, things will change.

Although I completely agree with you guys about being too harsh on young guys in situations like these, that doesn’t mean that his decisions earn him a mulligan. Many guys get their act together and prove the critics wrong, but to say his actions don’t mean anything is in accurate. He now has that label for walking out on a team and he can turn it around, but it’s his label now. Just the same that 18 year olds in everyday life do something stupid like get a DUI or get busted with pot face the consequences, Tyler has consequences for his actions. He can most definately turn his act around, but thats the name of the game, and he screwed up. It’s up to him to turn it around, not for people to say aw he’s just a kid, because NBA players are million dollar investments for teams. Not only do teams want the best players available, they want good teammates, high characters and faces for their organization and community.

What I meant was an immature action has consequences, a better everyday example would have probably been failing your first year of college, you can turn it around, but you’re on probation you lose scholarships etc….I wasn’t trying to make him out to be a criminal, but regardless of your age, your actions have consequences.

As someone who is Jewish, and very hard to offend, those are pretty damn offensive comments. I know what you are reciting, and maybe it was the fact that Tyler said they were going to become a multi-million dollar power couple, maybe it was the fact Tyler was playing in Israel, but nonetheless, those comments that "He and Easy-E’s daughter need to go be jewish and take over the world together", do make you sound like an ignorant bigot. You are using a stereotype that shows the Jewish people in a negative light, and no, saying Jewish people are trying to take over the world is not a compliment. I did not see at all how what Jeremy Tyler initially said about his dreams and hopes for the future had any ties into his association with Judaism, much less the stereotype that you later used to describe your negativity towards Tyler and Eazy-E’s daughter. Plus, you spelled Eazy-E wrong, that more than likely means you have no idea how bad ass he truly was, which is sad, frankly.

I for one think Jeremy Tyler has made a lot of bad moves, and his behavior has been very questionable, but to root against him to me is out of the question. He had so much potential in HS, and while his attitude in Israel was incredibly unprofessional, I just feel like he really did not have the guidance he needed to succeed in that environment, which is sad. He is, after all, still very much a kid, who is probably not used to getting anything other than whatever he wants. Adjusting to the pro’s in a foreign country must have been entirely confusing, and it sounded to me like he was doing it pretty much on his own. Japan of course is different, as I am sure he is treated like a king (they treat Bob Sapp like a God, and he sucks at what he does) and the competition is not nearly as formidable as that in Israel. I know that the BJ League has a number of older veteran players, but as a whole I think the players are younger, and for a big like Tyler, I think he will get by just due to his size and athleticism. I remember watching one of his games in Israel and he just looked like kind of a brat, whining and complaining, and honestly, I do not think he really had a person to listen to him, and at the same time convince himself to keep pushing on. I am pretty sure all of his teammates got sick of him, ignored him or knocked him on his ass. In Japan, their are not as many grizzled army vets that probably have kids nearly Tyler’s age that want to probably knock his teeth out. So, all I can hope is that he learned a valuable lesson and pushes on. He would have more than likely been the best Center prospect in his HS class had he stayed in school, and he has a frame and wing span that rival DeMarcus Cousins, plus he is more athletic. But, like DeMarcus, huge attitude concerns, and unlike DeMarcus, he has shown not even close to an ability to star in the pros since he finished high school.

Like I said earlier when you first posted this, I think it’s a good move for him, he seems to be getting playing time and playing efficent basketball, but he is still a ways away from being an NBA caliber player if Robert Swift and Byron Eton are the team leaders.  This league appears to have about the same level of competition as the D-League or slightly below, but again good move for him, he’s making way more money here than if he were to goto the D-League.
