It seems like a majority of players born on that continent seem to rule at defense, so, that is a strange statement. Hakeem Olajuwon, Dikembe Mutombo, Manute Bol among others known for defense more than offense as players (Hakeem actually is one of the only African players known for offensive prowess as well as defensive ability). So, statement makes little sense, or is just a bad joke (most likely the latter). However, while I agree that I have yet to see a player that can guard LeBron, seems like Luol Deng would be one of the better players to do so. LeBron killed them in every game but two in the play-offs, but Luol is a very good player and I recall him having some good matches with LeBron. He is nowhere near his athletic ability, but he is long and he is one of the few players that during the rare game can possibly match him scoring wise. But, as far as guarding LeBron, their may be players better at it than Luol, but I have yet to see an individual player shut him down. Tony Allen had a few great defensive possessions on LeBron in that series this year, but it was definitely a team effort, and I would not exactly say he was shut down in any game other than Game 5. The only person that can stop LeBron seems to be LeBron, and when motivated I do not know who can guard LeBron James. To me, even with his lack of skill set compared to a Kobe Bryant, their is no one harder to guard individually in the game at this point. I would think that LeBron would have a better chance of stopping Kobe than Kobe would of having LeBron, though all in all it takes a team effort to stop both players. But just look at what Dwyane and LeBron have done, even when they have not won series. Both are incredibly hard to defend and take team efforts to beat. That is what it comes down too, because Luol Deng may not stop LeBron, but if Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah step up, Boozer battles with Bosh and most importantly Chicago’s bench providing a huge contribution, than Luol might not have to. That being said, hard to see the Bulls beating the Heat this year.

And when they were growing up, most Africans didn’t play basketball. Yes, most players from Africa tend to have a slighter build, but were there any American players like Olajuwon, Mutombo or Bol who looked almost like they were genetically pre disposed to block shots? I mean, DeSagana Diop is no pip squeak? Now, I did not see LeBron James growing on trees, but I also do not see organized sports league when a player is freaking 6. Most of the African players do not have a chance to touch a basketball by the time most young players have been playing for around 6-8 years. The reason? Basketball is not as popular of a game in Africa as in most other places on earth, and soccer still rules. It is a different way of living in Africa, and I do not think organized sporting leagues for pee wee’s is a luxury that most young african children have. So, to say that it has something to do with being from America due to the players you have viewed from Africa on the majority, or just on the basis of Luol Deng, is really narrow minded. There are many places where children are starving for food, instead of getting anything they want on the menu from McDonald’s in America?
