Emerson Murray is Back- Most Underrated Player in College Basketball?

Murray has just about as much athletic abillity as any combo gaurd in college basketball. He is not ranked on Rivals Top 150 largely to the fact that he played his Highschool ball in British Columbia, Canada. After a serious knee injury he was still able to bounce back and get a respected D-1 scholarship.

Emerson Murray is back! Recruited by Mike Montgomery, former NBA Coach, and given great confidence by Cal’s Coaching and Recruiting staff Murray should be able to make his name known across the Basketball world. The California Golden Bears are currently in a very bad situation after their 4 leading scorers and only 4 players to average double digits in scoring have left the team. Emerson has big shoes to fill in Jerome Randle and he knows that.

Murray’s game is founded by great athletisism and his abillity to penetrate, although also has a great perimeter shot and mid-range pull up. His playmaking abillities are questioned and he has been known to be selfish although he hasnt played with talent quite on his own level. He is sort of like a poor mans D.Rose with a perimeter shot, not bad.

Cal has a very underrated Freshman class with Allen Crabbe, Gary Franklin and Emerson Murray. These are intelligent players that compliment eachother well, with good Ball IQ and very team oriented games. Crabbe has a 3.5 point grade average, averaged 23 ppg at Highschool is 6’6 and 200 pounds according to his representitives and has a very good inside outside game. Gary Franklin is a Shoot first PG who can light it up from the outside with ease, he is never afraid to take a shot. Think of Franklin like a Jacob Pullen type player if he fully develops (2-4 years down the road). Along with Sophmore Max Zhang 7’4 C and Junior Jorge Guiterrez these Freshman will try to lead this Cal team into a new era of basketball.

Cal maybe one of the worst teams in the Pac-10 this year, and the position may not be too hard for Murray to assume, leader of this team going forward.
