Remember this back in the day?

    http://www.basketball.ca/en/hm/inside.php?sid=1&id=2336
    “Last Updated: August 27, 2008By basketball.ca staff

Basketball website Scout.com released its top 75 prospects for the class of 2010 this week, ranking Canadian Junior National Team member Tristan Thompson as the number one prospect in his class for the second season in a row.

The highly touted Toronto teen has already made a verbal commitment to Division 1 Texas and is currently attending St. Benedict Prep school in New Jersey, the number two ranked high school in America according to ESPN”

All he did was recieve AAU All “American” honours as a “Canadian”, sign to a top Division 1, win National Titles consecutively at Findlay Prep, recieve invites to every respected highschool “allstar” game, while representing his country. Now I feel like asking the question before I simply say TRISTAN THOMPSON IS UNDERRATED. Why has he not lived up to the hype. It has to be one of these things.

1- The Hype was set at a much to large level.
    2-He stopped improving.
    3-He hasnt accomplished enough.

Thompson has underrated size often portaited as 6’8 225 when he is really 6’10 240, an underrated jump shot, underrated post moves, he dribbles averagely…if he was a wing but he is a PF which means he has great dribbles, his defense is solid, his motor is solid. I myself even started to think “well maybe I am just bieng biast by thinking he is really good” and at that time I stated he is overrated. I dont think he is thou, especially since the popular belief is how extremely wiry and raw he is.

If Thompson is still developing with all the skill and natural abillity he has then he has a chance to be a Top 10 Pick in the future, and if he is wiry then he can still add 20-30 pounds and be 270 at about 6’11. Who knows he maybe growing still and could even end up at 7 Feet tall, last year he was measured at about 6’7 6’8.

I see career NBA stats at about 15 and 10 for him. I see him having large success at Texas if he stays for awhile, especially if he gets Joseph, Kabongo and others to stay there with him.

So now, what I want you to do is tell me why he has not lived up to the hype. What more does he have to do. or was the hype just too large?

Thompson was measured in at 6’8.5 with shoes on. Anyhow, I’ve never been a huge fan of him. He is very athletic and has a good first step. He seems very inconsistent though. He tends to get in foul trouble. Correct me if im wrong, but last year didn’t he get absolutely destroyed by Sullinger? I think Thompson could be a solid starter in the nba, but nothing more.

Lol yeah. Sullinger pretty much dominated whoever at the HS level. Still, Thompson didn’t seem like a factor at all. Not even offensively.

Give me a reason why thou. Saying he got destroyed by an obviously better player doesnt give me a reason why everyone hates him. His Rivals ranking is high and im not upset about his national ranking. Just can anyone on this site tell me why they hate him so much?

I don’t hate him…I said he is a solid NBA prospect. I don’t think he’ll ever be a huge threat offensively and he seemed very inconsistent when I saw him play. I think he could be a top-15 pick if he has a very good year (I don’t see him having that though).

I don’t hate him either….you’re the one who said he got worked by Sully….I’ve seen Tristan bust some people down…..but I think he is a lottery pick if he stays in school 2 years….he reminds me of Al-Farouq a little bit….especially in how far along he is in his development….

I see a lottery pick if he stays for 2 years as well, but still. I sense alot of misconseptions. He is quick, stronger now and so what he got worked by Sulli, whats the big deal. How many NATIONAl titles did Sulli win. Sullinger is like 280 pounds on a diet thats what he does is work people, its not like he is gonna stay on the court for 30 minutes without picking up fouls or having a heart attack.

Corey Joseph has been making him look good for years, Thompson has always been in his shadow and I guess thats why he has always not been noticed as much…

make no mistake Sullinger is not just some fat lard…..he stays on the court and he doesn’t make dumb fouls…..I will say it again….he is the best freshman in the country I have never seen him have a bad game out of like the 20 I have watched in my life, most of them against the top big men in the country….

Whenever I watched Tristan Thomson on national TV, he wasn’t dominate. He wasn’t assertive enough. If Tristan Thompson was the only great player on a HS team, I don’t think they would be very good. He also got into a lot of foul trouble. If he wants to become a good NBA player, he needs to become more aggressive.

To me, Tristan Thompson is eerily similar to a young Damion James. Also, the comparison to Al-Farouq Aminu is a good one too

Tristan is alot like sharif Abdul rahim. Good handles for a 4 good athlete and decent jumper. Doesn’t seem to go hard like sharif did though but similair game after watching both play in hs
