valentineThis is the summer leauge team you want to be on. With all the roster spots open they are gonna sign a couple of guys who either weren’t in the NBA last year or have been in and out for years. They don’t have the MLE. And they can’t afford to pay any player more then the min.

gatorheelsParticipantMiami needs to sign Rashad McCants
Agree with the topic. This is a Great opportunity for these players in summer league to hop onto the Heat’s roster.

JNixonParticipantIt doesn’t matter which SL roster you play on really, unless you REALLY do stand out because then the team would have your rights and could just sign you outright. What matters is if the teams in attendance feel you bring something to the table that could help there team. There are teams from all over the NBA, and even overseas, that attend these SL games to fill out their rosters. It doesn’t matter what team you play for, you can get a look from any team just about.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI don’t think they’ll be signing NBDL players or free agents from Europe.
PG: Mario Chalmers, Shaun Livingston, Jannero Pargo
SG: Wade, Damon Jones
SF: James, Miller (I guess they’ll magically have enough money to do it), Da’Sean Butler
PF: Bosh, Josh Boone, Jarvis Varnado
C: Theo Ratliff, Eddy Curry (after he gets waived), Joel Anthony, Dexter Pittman0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/09/2010 - 5:50am #350181
stanford hoopsTeams don’t have you’re rights on a sl team unless you were drafted. You can quit the team anytime you want. And yea you wanna be on thus sl team because the heat will be able to watch you more then players on other teams. They can’t aford that bothteams. Most of those guys don’t make min and they don’t have the MLE cuz they won’t/can’t go over the cap to sign players

PhlyBoi5ParticipantJon Scheyer is on da Heat SL roster. I personally see him on the opening day roster. What are everybodies thoughts on this?

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantPat Riley did carry Chris Quinn on the Heat’s roster for a few years, though it isn’t a good sign the Heat’s official roster doesn’t know what college Scheyer went to.

JNixonParticipantScheyer might actually have a chance to make their roster. IMO, he’s very similar to Chris Quinn, who was a favorite of Coach Spoelstra’s. Also, Scheyer can shoot it when open. He’s not going to be a good defender but he does at least try, just like Quinn did.
Edit: LOL, BTPH beat me too it.

mistapink1Participantto guys making d-league money or low level euro money, the nba minimum is still a raise. and a nice way to make a living if you can get it. plus, the heat have two advantages most nba teams don’t. 1) no matter how much you tear it up in summer league, most teams might have 1 or 2 roster spots available, max. the heat have 8 (7 if the mike miller signing goes through). 2) roster spots mean playing time. which means an unheralded guy can make a name for himself and parlay it into a big nba payday. and it’s literally wide open. beat out jarvis varnado, dexter pittman, da’sean butler, and latavious williams, (hell, beat out mario chalmers, it ain’t that hard) and you’ll get serious burn on a potential championship squad. can any other team offer that? did i mention you’d also get all the castoff lebron groupies one man can stand? i’d say thats check and mate for the miami heat summer league squad…
what i’d love is for the heat to pick up a really interesting roster of washed up vets, young guns, nbdlers, ex college stars and euros. then put the tryouts, practices and drama, hard knocks style on nbatv. just what is latrell sprewell up to these days anyway? come back skita, all is forgiven! can rod benson finally make an nba roster? would you not read everything rod tweeted as the 8th man (second big off the bench) for the 2010-11 miami heat? jon scheyer was born to be the steve kerr for this bunch. if omar samhan can make any team in the nba and actually play meaningful minutes, it’d be this one. i bet pat riley still has vladimir stepania on speed dial. the heat should seriously snap marqus blakely right up. he could be their tony allen. hell, ask him to bring along taylor coppenrath. -insert obligatory john bryant joke here- and let us never forget antoine walker. no one, and i mean no one, is more motivated than a guy with gambling debts.

DaleoParticipanti think jon scheur could end up making the team and maybe playing like 10 minutes a game just for his shooting

stanford hoopsI can see scgeyer makeing the team. This team will be much better in year 3 because of the young min pay players they will prob sign. As a laker fan they don’t worry me right now like they will in 2years.

JoeWolf1Don’t forget Patrick Beverly, they have his rights and after another season in Europe he should be ready to at least make the team and play limited minutes at backup point guard. I think he’d be a better guy to run the point than Scheyer, but he doesn’t have the outside shooting.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/09/2010 - 6:26am #350228

JNixonParticipantGOD I hope Pat Beverley gets on. He can do everything alright, but his defense is very good. I’m a big Pat Beverley guy

JoeWolf1Me too Iggy, he and Chalmers would be a hell of a defensive point guard combination.

gatorheelsParticipantI think Torrance will make the team. Big PG, good length, pretty good athlete, solid ball handler/decision maker, can score, left handed. I could see Torrance getting some minutes.. I think he would mesh well with Wade &or LeBron on the court.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/09/2010 - 7:44am #350306

JNixonParticipantThat’s a good call Gatorheels. Torrence would fit beside players like Wade and Lebron, since he has the ability to play both guard spots and can shoot it a little when open. And he’s a decent defender too. He could be a Shannon Brown type, with less athleticism.
