valentineWow….
IMO this looks like a horrible contract

Anton123ParticipantWhy would you want a 30 year old centre for 5 years almost 11 millions per year? Is this the summer of unreasonably big money?

JNixonParticipantWTF? Why? They have had Erick Dampier and DeSagna Diop and they offer him this? They went overboard.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantMark Cuban really doesn’t catch enough heat for being incredibly dumb when handing out money. DeSagana Diop must have a shrine to Cuban in his mansion. Just because Erick Dampier’s awful contract is coming off the books, it does not mean he has to replace it with another one. He will be one of the owners who say the system is out of whack when they lock out the players, though I am unaware of someone putting a gun to his head and making him overpay mediocre 7-footers on an annual basis.

NashyMingParticipantIt’s Mark Cuban. He got all the money to burn anyway.
The Mavs are over the cap for the next a few years regardless of what will happen, they may as well overpay every single players as they can only get MLE player to patch the team every year.
The good thing is, they got a star in Dirk, a bunch of very good players (although overpaid), a very deep roster (although all of them are old folks). With the bottomless pocket of Mark Cuban, they maybe able to pull off a deal that get them a real #1 star for them to be a real contender though (they are already contending, just a little behind the Lakers in terms of overall talent).

ScareCrowsRevengeParticipantWasn’t he playing for a new deal last year…Now here comes the Big Man + Big Contract = Big Flop formula for disaster

FDAPOThe problem is he could have gotten a similar contract from another team….

the I in winParticipantThe Mavs don’t have Diop, he is on Charlotte.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 9:10am #349107

JNixonParticipantThat’s why I said they HAVE had Diop and Dampier.

NarcParticipantDidn’t learn anything from Eric Dampier huh?? This is a terrible contract. Why sign someone like Brendan Haywood for that many years for that much money…hell they could have gotten Theo Ratliff for way cheaper and they basically do the same things!

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipant“The Mavs don’t have Diop, he is on Charlotte.”
Mark Cuban and the Mavs were the ones who gave him his contract.

Russell0WestbrookParticipantfirst off 6years 55mil isnt 11 mil a year second he is just what they need a center that is a good rebounder and defender 2 things Dirk doesnt do so well. And they dont have Diop they only have Dampier and this deal beats getting Shaq or J. Oneal. this team is a decent sg away from being a championship team they are deep and talented. plus this is the going rate for decent centers. the guy gave the team 9pts, 9reb, and 2blks what more do you want from a 4th option?
Sources told ESPNDallas.com that because Haywood’s sixth year is not fully guaranteed, the deal averages roughly $7 million to $8 million annually in guaranteed money, depending on incentives.

ScareCrowsRevengeParticipantHe could have let him Walk…Am I think only one who Thinks the Clippers and Mavs are perfect trade partners…
Chris Kaman and Al Farooq Aminu for Caron Butler,Brendan Haywood and JJ Barea…
Dirk wanted to play with Kaman in the NBA( they play on the German Team together and are Good friends) Both Teams Win…
