McDunkinUSA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said in a phone interview Monday with FanHouse that only two holdovers from the 2008 Olympic team are making plans to possibly be with Team USA for the World Championships in Turkey. And those two, New Orleans guard Chris Paul and Utah guard Deron Williams, might not be able to play due to recovering from injuries.
So that means LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Tayshaun Prince, Michael Redd and Jason Kidd are all out of the picture for USA Basketball this summer. Kidd (retired from USA basketball competition) and Redd (injured knee), though, were not candidates due to not being on the 31-man roster.

With the up and coming young talent waiting in the wings to play such as Durant, Granger, The Lopez twins, Love, Mayo, Gordon, Jennings, etc i actually dont see this as that much of a problem

llperezfor years now collangelo has been stressing the fact guys must commit for all 3 years if they want to play in olympics and now im guessing he will back off that. I still expect a lot of those names to be on the 2012 roster.

RickyRubio9ParticipantSo since Redd & Kidd won’t be back of course
I don’t see Boozer or Prince comnig back to the team either..
So.
James, Wade, Bosh, Howard, D-Will, CP3, Anthony, & maybe Bryant left?0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/05/2010 - 5:43pm #347200
nateoak10ParticipantPG: CP3, DWill, Curry
SG: Roy,Iggy, Wallace
SF: KD, Granger,
PF: Josh Smith/Amare/Lee/Aldridge/Love?
C: Horford, Lopez/BynumI think our bigs will be a huge issue this summer.I know Wallace aint 2 but we will need to merge our 3’s and 2’s since I doubt Colangelo will take Joe Johnson or Monta Ellis. But why isnt Dwight or Melo going to be there? Are they that selfish?

adjose5ParticipantMelo is getting married this weekend and has said that he spending time with his fam. No clue whats going on with Howard
Heres my squad….based on the 27 players selected….http://www.usabasketball.com/mens/national/201012MNTroster.html
CP3/Billups/Rose
Williams/Igudola
Durant/Granger
Amare/Aldridge/Odom
Lopez/LeeIf CP3 n D Will dont play then I’d put Curry n Mayo on. I wish Brandon Roy would be healthy enough to participate…he’d be a perfect fit especially at the 2 guard

Afactor4ParticipantI think Rajon Rondo can be very effective in International play. The US really needs a point guard that will pass up on looks looking to create a better shot for a teammate. His hustle and defense will also be a boost.

OhCanada-ParticipantAra Minuts are you frieking kidding me. The US NEEDS a PG that can pass first?Yah because Williams, Paul, Billups and Rose isnt good enough…They don’t need anything the Americans could have a 4th teaqm be the favourites of the whole tournament.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantMost of those teams overseas have been playing together for years and they’ve created a great chemistry..So it takes guys of superior talent the elite players in the NBA like Lebron,Kobe & Wade to offset that great cohesiveness..But it seems this year none of those guys will participate..But there are still guys that can compete and possibly win..Guys like Durant,Rudy Gay,Derrick Rose,Kevin Love,Deron Williams,Rondo & Mayo are young solid guys that cant wait to prove they can be better than the elite players…
