Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI don’t know about you guys but I think we might have seen a potential dynasty built.
Sacramento taking DeMarcus Cousins and Hassan Whiteside could mean trouble for alot of Franchises. Why? The Kings have alot of pieces to me to win a Championship. Tyreke Evans is a stud, Omar Casspi is a scrappy defender, Jason Thompson is a solid starting big man, Brockman and Greene are solid rotational players and adding DeMarcus Cousins and Hassan Whiteside could make this team scary.
We also have to remember, Sacramento could add a max level free agent. Odds they get one? Zero percent but I think the GM ( Who’s names escape me) is smart with not only taking risks but overseas players. If Sacramento could add another lotto type talent, we could be pushing Sacramento up and away into the playoffs and maybe the Finals.
Thoughts? I know it’s crazy and the title is bold but I think in 3-5 seasons, Sacramento could be in the Finals discussion.

knicksfan7ParticipantIf Cousins lives up to his potential, then I agree with your statement. If Cousins does not live up to his potential they will be a better team, but only a borderline playoff team.

JJeff6Participantwell you have a point, but idk if they have that go to scoring guy besides tyreke. Also Samuel dalembert can be a huge help on the defensive end, averaging 2+ blocks and 9+rebounds. they need one or maybe 2 more weapons before they are considered a legit threat.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 3:38pm #342333
piratejpParticipantBut a lot has to go right in between. Evans needs to improve both his decision making and jumper. Whiteside is a project, but he shouldn’t be rushed too much & will probably spend some time playing in Reno this year. I’m actually not worried about Cousins at all – I think most of the stuff people were pinning on him was pretty thin & he’s just a kid. I think in the end it will be much ado about nothing.
They still need to pick up some backcourt depth, and a starting SF – Casspi & Greene seem more like solid bench guys at best – but considering where they were two years ago, it’s night and day.
One last thing, I agree they aren’t really in the hunt this season for any of the max guys, but what about Melo next year? If he’s looking around for a landing spot (assuming he doesn’t re-up with Denver and skip being a FA), I have to think the Kings next year might look a lot like the Bulls do this year for Lebron. Dalembert will come off the books, so they’d certainly have the space. I’m not saying it’s likely to happen, but if it did they would instantly be one of the top, and youngest, teams in the league. All I know is that having talent on the roster makes you a lot more attractive, and something that seemed laughable a week ago now seems, at the very least, possible.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 3:40pm #342335

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThere is only one FA I think they could get who’s a max player and that’s Dirk.

StF616ParticipantI Think the only thing missing is a superstar
Of Course, tyreke could very well solve that
Lets wait and see how tyreke will develop in the near future
And I like Casspi but i dont know if he’s good enough to become
a solid starter in a championship team
Maybe a 6th man?
He could very well prove me wrong though0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 3:48pm #342336

llperezI doubt they get a superstar free agent. They’ll probably be fine building for another year or two through the draft. But I really like what they got going for them. I was telling me sac friends that they would pick cousins and they were all against it for some reason. I think they will be pleasantly satisifed.
Now if only they could get a new arena…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 3:48pm #342337

BasketBalAllanParticipantBefore the Kings turn into a legit title contender they need some things to happen.
1. Tyreke needs to improve just like piratejp said, his jumper and decision making.
2. They need a more reliable scoring threat at both the Guard and the SF spot, specifically a 3pt shooter or a good jump shooter. Maybe Casspi will be able to put up a whole season this year like he did the first half of last year, which would help quite a bit.
3. They need for Cousins and Whiteside to develop at the expected, hoped for, rate.
4. They need to improve their free-throw shooting as a team; it will most likely not be very pretty from the stripe next year.
5. They need a quality off the ball player to be signed with the huge amount of money they have, someone who can be a part of their future, but does not need to be an all-star, just a very solid contributor.
That is a very bold prediction indeed…

Da1potParticipantWhy do you think Dirk would go to the Kings?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 3:50pm #342340

llperezyeah, dirk is at the end of his career. Cant see anyway he goes to a rebuilding team.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 3:50pm #342341

JJeff6Participanti bet dirk retires a maverick.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 3:55pm #342342

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI dunno. I just feel Dirk could look at Sacramento, see that talent and go for it. THAT IS A BOLD PREDICTION RIGHT THERE. I think Dirk could end up in NY with Rudy Gay right now. That’s just me.
As for Sacramento, I think the Kings do need some things. For one, I don’t think PG is a big need. I think you might be able to get away with a scoring point who could provide 4-5 assists opposite Evans’ 5-6 assist per game.
I think Donte Greene could understand this season that he’s a good 6th man. I like Jon Brockman in that Landry, Uno Uno role. I do think the Kings need maybe another big and another wing that contributes and we could be talking about a really good team.
I would love to see Cory Joesph ( Freshman, Texas) to join alongside Evans in the backcourt in 2011.

gregoden08ParticipantLet’s not get carried away here…The Kings haven’t been good for a while…Now were throwing out dynasty? I can see this team making the playoffs very soon and possibly being a contender a few years down the road. Tyreke is simply amazing and Cousins can be a 20 and 10 guy if he ever gets his conditioining up. To be honest, Whiteside just seems like a poor mans Marcus Camby. They have some pieces, but I doubt this team will ever be a dynasty.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 4:00pm #342346

the I in winParticipantTyreke turned them around and adding Cousins will make them a playoff team in a few years. If Whiteside can turn into that Camby type player this team could be very good.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 4:00pm #342348

Da1potParticipantSo, if they think they can do good in the playoffs this year, what’s the chance they trade for Mike Bibby?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 4:03pm #342350

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI don’t think I said Dynasty. I said Finals Discussion man.
They haven’t been good because of many things
-Wasting 1st round picks on Francisco Garcia and Quincey Douby
-Trading Mike Bibby for a Gallon of MilkThey did a very slow rebuild. Similar to Portland and Indiana (next season)

record: 36-46
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/26/2010 - 4:13pm #342356
piratejpParticipantI don’t know if they need a true PG per se, but whoever ultimately pairs with Tyreke needs to have both a decent handle and be able to score (preferably from deep); more a combo guard than a PG probably. Udrih is perfect for coming off the bench. Add another high-quality guard and wing, one of whom needs to be at least a very good player, and you’ve got something special.
BBAllen is right though, free throw shooting is going to be an achilles this year. As the young guys mature, and they bring in better talent at the guard and wing, it should improve (hopefully) by the time they’re beginning to challenge.
Most likely they win around 30 this year. That would likely put them in the 5% to win the lotto range that the team who wins it almost always seems to come from. Imagine if that happened and they got Barnes…
Still a ways to go, but most definitely heading in the right direction.

JJeff6Participanthey you want a bold solution for point gaurd who can score and give out 4-5 assists. ALLEN IVERSON! his ego may be too big for calis capital but im sure he could put up decent numbers in a kings jersey.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantGregOden08, I got a new Twitter. Follow me at QHaynes22.
Also to Taylor, I think Sacramento would be super happy with the record and the fact Cousins would be a 15-10-3 type player off the bat.
Also people, a hidden storyline to follow? Samuel Dalembert working with Hassan Whiteside. He could help him.

SpencerIsHawesome2ParticipantCasspi will score more than 10 ppg this year.. He did this past year and he struggled with fatigue the whole second half.
But anyways, the Kings have a lot going for them. Efficient PG that can hit deep shots. A superstar in the making at SG. A scrappy/very good perimeter defender who can shoot from long range. Young big men who can command the paint and who are all also great rebounders. A crafty, scoring power forward.
They have a lot going for them… The main pieces appear to be in place. Now it’s time for the Kings to work on the secondary stuff… Shooter off the bench, making sure the team gels together, improving year in and year out both individually and as a team.
Most people believe Beno Udrih is a good backup, but I for one am a firm believer he is just what we need as a starter. Obviously he is no superstar but we don’t need a superstar at PG when we have Evans who is a combo guard. Beno is EXTREMELY efficient. Shot over 50%, hits 3’s doesn’t turn the ball over. If Derek Fisher can win multiple championships as a PG then I am confident in Beno. He’s not the best but he fits exactly what the Kings need.
Like I said though we have a little ways to go. We still need some shooters. Our young guys still need to develop. But it’s looking like in a few years that the Kings could be a playoff team–things are definitely looking up and I for one am extremely excited about it
And also, I still need a new username… any suggestions?!??

BasketBalAllanParticipantWhat’s with the whole Kings “Wasting 1st round picks on Francisco Garcia”, as far as I am concerned he was a great selection at 23 in 2005, only David Lee and Monta Ellis turned out definitively better than him.
