knicksfan7ParticipantI am a knicks fan, see user name, if haven’t figured it out yet. I am a realist, and I am one who is not banking on Lebron James coming to New York. I don’t think he comes to New York because of the situation, he will not be competing for a title in 2 years if he came to New York. Okay, back to the present. New York does not have a first round pick, but they have 2 2nd round picks in the top 10 of the 2nd round. As we all know this is a very deep draft where 1st round talent will be taken in the 2nd round. Before I go into free agency, I will go into the draft first.
The Knicks must draft with 1 of there two 2nd round picks, Greivis Vasquez PG out of Maryland. The Knicks need a PG, more than any other position. Chris Duhon, goodbye. Sergio Rodriguez, overhyped garbage maybe a 3rd string player. Toney Douglas, you’re a quality backup pg worth having. What Greivis lacks in athleticism, speed, and quickness he makes up for in heart and being bigger than most PG in the leagues. Personally if I were a GM picking in the late 1st round, I would take him. With there other 1st round pick they should draft either a PF or C because they have no depth there. My choice would be Jerome Jordan a legit 7′ who will be able to play Center in the NBA and in D’antoni’s system.
Now on to free agency. I have already said Lebron isn’t coming to NY, I will now add that neither is Wade. Oh, no the Knicks are screwed, no they’re not. Chris Bosh, I like him, but I would rather keep Lee because the difference in talent isn’t that vast and the difference in dollars is not worth the investment. Chris Bosh is a very good player, but you don’t give a power forward max money, they’re the most expendable position in the NBA. I would go after Joe Johnson for around a 5 year $80 million dollar deal to be the Knicks starting shooting guard, he has it all and is very effective. Also, I would make some minor signings to add depth to the bench. Now the Knicks final roster…
PG: Vasquez/Douglas
SG: Joe Johnson/Bill Walker
SF: Danilo Gallinari/Wilson Chandler
PF: David Lee or Chris Bosh/ Jonathan Bender
C: Jerome Jordan/ Earl Barron/ Eddy Curry
I would add Rodriguez and T-Mac to the list, but I am unsure if I see them staying. Rodriguez more likely than T-Mac. I see a team that is competing for the title signing T-Mac to help them compete.0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/16/2010 - 2:11pm #316527
The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantThey wont be signing Lee either…they had their shot last summer…If I was Walsh( and I am) I would be trying to use the Sign and Trade angle on every free agent…They have the money but no one wants to play there…Lets say you start by sign and trading Lee…then try to convince a team like the Wolves to give Rubio or Love and that 16th pick…you could get your point if they bite on Rubio for Lee or get Bledsoe and have Love play the role of a cheaper less talented Lee

JNixonParticipantI like that plan.
Jordan and Vazquez would be a solid draft class, and I think Vazquez could be a starting PG in the Knicks system. Jordan gives them a decent post scorer, and probably would be a wise big to groom to defend the strong guys like Dwight Howard and Brook Lopez. He still has room to get bigger.
Joe Johnson is a good fit for NY. I don’t know if he’ll go there because he has said he wants to contend immediately. But NY is definitely in the running though.
Bosh and Lee have alot of the same strengths and weaknesses, but I think Lee should be kept over Bosh for some reason. I don’t think they should try to replace a guy who is their best player unneccessarily.

doubledribblerParticipantIf I’m NY and I cannot get Wade or Lebron, I would wait and go hard for Carmelo in 2011. I’m sure the fans would hate another bad year, but I’m not sure any of those other guys are going to make my team into a championship contender. I think the way things are shaping up, a lot of guys are going to get max deals that don’t deserve them (i.e., Joe Johnson) and a guy like Bosh isn’t going to lead you to a championship.
I agree with what everyone is saying about Lee. Bosh is better, but not that much better. I just don’t see Lee as much of a priority for them unless everything else falls apart, even then I am pretty sure they will have to renounce his rights just to get the full capspace to go after two max guys. So the Knicks would have to stay under the cap to re-sign him. If they renounce his rights there goes the sign and trade scenario as well. I see Lee moving on. He’s been underpaid since he has been in the league. I think he will likely try to go somewhere where he can win and get paid better.

NYK2010ParticipantDon’t want Joe Johnson and why wouldn’t the Knicks be contenders in 2 years with Lebron.
Curry will be gone in a year and can use him as trade bait.I can see if Wade and Lebron don’t want to sign becaz they want to win now.
However every big name free agent can’t go to a winning team.Teams with cap room to sign max contracts
Knicks
Nets
Bulls
Heat
Clippers
Wizards
Twolves
Thunder
