Which of the teams is in better postion going forward?

Each team has really good young players, really high draft picks, and a ton of cap space over the next two years till their rookies and sophs require extensions…

The Nets- Have Devin Harris, Terrence Williams, Brook Lopez, Yi, Lee, CDR; Best Chance at Number 1 overall, the number 27 and the number 31 and two firsts next year; and are almost 20 mil under cap

The Kings have ROY Evans, Francisco Garcia, Spencer Hawes, Jason Thompson, and Carl Landry, not to mention Omri Casspi and Donte Greene; they have 3rd best chance at number 1 and the number 33; and they are about 6-10 million under cap

The TWolves have Johnny Flynn, Kevin Love, Al Jefferson, Cory Brewer(if they keep him), and the rights to Ricky Rubio; They Have the second best chance at number 1 (or the best chance at number 2 depending on how you want to look at it), and they have the number 16, the number 23, ther number 45 and the number 56; and they are about 13-15 under the cap minus the rookie slots

Misc.- Nets have new billionaire majority owner, part owner Jay-Z, new stadium and new city in a year 1/2
Kings have owners facing bankruptcy, a city facing bankruptcy, and are in one of the toughest divisions in basketball
The Twolves have clones at power forward which is good and bad, and will be without Rubio and maybe his trade value(which is skyrocketing as he dominates euroleague junior play) for another year unless a deal can be made on his buyout.

My pick, hesitantly is the Nets, with the TWOLVES a close second…but depending on who gets number 1 that could change, wall and Evans would be scary in transition, though they’ll need more three point shooters…

The T-wolves just because they have so many draft picks in this years draft it gives them a bit of leverage to build this offseason.
Plus they have Rubio and the best player of the 2 teams in Jefferson in my opinion Lopez is not a 20 10 guy hes a 15 10 guy if you trade Jefferson with Lopez.

Yeah it’s close, Jefferson is definitely better right now at least offensively but Lopez is only 20-21 and is just really learning how to dominate. So in three years we will see who is better, but I think love is probably better than Yi or Williams or Roperts and in a few years Harris/Flynn may be a wash.

The things that separate the two in my mind are the cities, the owners’ pockets, and that new stadium, its close though only time will tell, but I have to go with Nets if they are able to pry Pritchard from the Blazers who’s been perfect except for Oden over Durant…

i say the nets. A all-star caliber center is hard to find. They have a ton of money and no bad contracts. Harris will bounce back and they have a top 4 pick coming up.

The wolves still dont know if KLove and jefferson are a good fit and they dont have a legit center and its not like those just fall out of the sky. And im not sure what they are gonna do with Rubio and Flynn playing together.

The Kings dont have one sure fire starter outside of evans. Hawes, Thompson, and others are solid and getting better, but no gaurantees they are major difference makers long term.

I don’t think this is that hard of a question. It’s the Nets.

    – Billionaire owner who’s aggressive and willing to spend
    – Getting ready to move into a new arena in Brooklyn
    – In position to hire a new coach and get a fresh start in that area
    – Tons of money to spend via free-agency
    – No bad contracts
    – A young All-Star caliber center who’s still in his 10th pick/rookie contract
    – A young All-Star caliber point guard who can still be an elite point guard or used as trade bait IF they land the top pick
    – Solid young talent in Yi, Williams, Lee and CDR
    – Top four pick in this year’s draft

I started making this post before Llperez posted. I have a few of the same things.

Kings are well more than 6-10 Mil under the cap….

Regardless I’ll make my argument for them.

First of all they have Tyreke Evans. Evans is (or at least will be) the best player on any of the 3 above teams mentions. I’d take him over Devin Harris, Jefferson, etc. You might take Lopez over him because he is a center–but it’s obvious tyreke is a better bball player in terms of skill.

Second of all, another rookie, Omri Casspi is a future starter and borderline all-star in the league. Before the all-star game he averaged 12 points 5 rebounds 1.5 assists shooting 47%, 38% from 3. He is also widely regarded as the Kings best defender. Once he learns exactly how to play in the NBA and maintains his stamina for an entire year he will be very good– I’m thinking 16-6-2.5.

Third, Carl Landry is an excellent scorer in the post and Hawes/Thompson are above-average bench bigs. Once they draft Demarcus Cousins they have a 4 man rotation with Cousins/Landry starting and Hawes/Thompson coming off the bench. They will be deep in the post and will only get better with experience.

Fourth, Donte Greene is also a future starter in the league, and him and Casspi make a good 1-2 punch at the SF position. Casspi with his toughness and all-around play, and Greene is developing into a very good offensive player/shooter.

Let’s not forget Beno Udrih who plays very well along side Evans and has a good shot in his arsenal as well.

So I’ll take the Kings. Mostly because they’re my favorite team.

Two minor changes to what was said in the threads starting post:

The Kings will be around 17 million under cap this coming summer, not 6-10.

The Kings Owners sold a brewery they owned for a lot more than expected and are now, in their own words, “living comfortably”, so they are in no way facing bankruptcy.

As to whom I would pick regarding the post; I would love to say the Kings, but I honestly think that it depends so much on what happens this summer, that for now I will reserve my judgment.

6-10 mill under cap right now, couldn’t remember which, they get rid of K Thomas this summer and u r right its 15/17 if cap isn’t shorted and all bonuses met.

They still have Nocioni contract and udrih, slightly overpaid but they have good space. i think there guy if they can get him is turner, but Johnson would work well as well.

The Kings do not at all need Turner or Wes Johnson. We’re set at SF and Evans/Turner are too similar.

They are very similar but I think that’s what helps later in the season you saw teams putting a lot of ball pressure on Reke, they need someone else who can get in the lane penetrate kick and wreak havoc.

Far as Wes, no team loses with too much depth at the 3/4 especially when you dont have any athletic wing defenders. Casspi is solid but probably in a 6th man role. Wes gives you a freak athlete something they are sorely missing.

Udrih improved enough this last season for me not to be to critical of his contract, but I do think that Nocioni is extremely overpaid and needs to be moved as soon as possible, I would rather see his minutes go to Donte and Casspi.

I have to say the Nets..

Their question is rather or not fans be willing to support them in Brooklyn? And who will be their new coach..And what style of play will he run?

They have new ownership.About to move into a new building…An allstar point guard & an allstar caliber center..

    A top 4 draft pick..

Tons of cap space..And Some of the top free agents have stated they will love to play there..Some nice bargaining chips to use in trades in CDR,Yi ,Lee and Williams..

Plus playing in the Eastern Conference helps..lol

Put it like this, if they don’t move Nocioni and his contract there is 0 chance Kings draft Turner and they only draft Johnson if they pick 5th and he’s there.

Nocioni, Greene, Casspi are all pretty much purely SF’s.. Add a 4th to that mix that is too many.

Kings don’t need another guy to drive and dish, they need another guy for ‘Reke to drive and dish too.

The Kings draft board should be the following:

    John Wall
    Demarcus Cousins
    Derrick Favors
    Evan Turner
    Wes Johnson

Having Beno/Evans/Turner as a backcourt sounds good but there is no outside shot at SG/SF position. And Beno is solid from outside but not great.

Kings need Casspi/Greene rotation at SF because they can shoot the 3. They were already towards the bottom in 3 pt shots made last season, adding Turner would probably make them close to last.

I’m surprised more non-Kings fans aren’t saying Sac-town has the brightest future of the 3 teams mentioned. Brook is a nice cornerstone at a crucial position, but he isn’t assertive enough to be a true 1st option. Evans on the other hand, is. As a point guard on offense, he is RELENTLESS. So until the Nets find that beast that just takes over games and wills his teams to Ws, Sacramento has the slight edge, especially if they draft a Cousins or even a Aldrich to solidify that solid frontcourt.

Kings fans let me ask you this. If you end up with the 2-4 pick would you trade it for Al Jefferson?

Nets by mile, they will spend over the cap, and not only is the new owner a billionaire he was a basketball player. I think he is like 6’6”. Draft pics , new stadium, dont let last year fool you, this is going to be like San Antonio winning the lotto then going on to win 4 champ.

Well, it depends. If the Kings ended up with the third or fourth pick and the Wolves were willing to take both Garcia and Nocioni with the pick for Al Jefferson and a 2nd rounder then maybe. That would give the King about 18-19 million in cap space and a solid front court with Landry and Jefferson who, come to think of it, would play well off of each other. My only problem with this new front court would be Jefferson’s ability to defend the post, which has not been all that good so far in his career.
