kaceyParticipantDennis Dodd, over at CBSSports, claims Auburn is willing to fork up some big $$$ to get Tubby Smith. Tubby has been great at turning Minnesota around, but you know he wants back in the SEC.
Interesting that this comes up before Minnesota plays its first game in the tourney.

JNixonParticipantHe should stay at Minnesota…Auburn is going to be much harder to turn around than Minnesota. I wouldn’t want to rebuild all over again like that. He’s going to be stressed out if he does..

kaceyParticipantYeah, but money can do funny things to people.

JNixonParticipantYea it can. Hope he’s not that money-hungry, to the point he doesn’t know what he’s getting into. Minnesota has more more talent than Auburn, and they don’t have schools in their state that will take their prospects like Alabama and even UAB.

darkman97ParticipantBeing in Minnesota, when it came on the local news that we just got him as our coach, I was so happy. I mean a big name college coach wanting to come to our local university? Why? So I figured that he was so underappreciated at Kentucky that he needed to prove that he was still a good coach and worthy of big pay and respect. What’s a better way to get that than to turn a bottom dwelling team into a good team? I always looked at his stop here as a stepping stone to get back to his elite status. He brought in two great recuiting classes (even though he hasn’t been able to use this years class to it’s full potential)
As far as Clemson goes. Probably a bad move going against the ACC teams day after day after day, but if he wants a challenge then go for it. Also since the talent level is alot better in the south it would make recuiting easier. I’m sure you can talk a good recuit into going to a South Carolina school in the winter alot easier than a Minnesota school. But as all coaches under contract would do, he stated his desire to stay in Minnesota.

darkman97ParticipantDisregaurd that last paragraph thought it was Clemson they were talking about. But kinda changes because the SEC isn’t as tough as the ACC plus he can go up against his old team every year but don’t think that’s gonna be a good idea on his part.

tonyl33ParticipantAfter what he’s done here in the twin cities, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. If Corey Joeseph decides to come play for Tubby, I’m pretty sure he’s not going anywhere. It’s been such a short stay for him and he’s already taken the Gophers to 2 NCAA tournaments and one Big Ten finals. His future here is so bright and it’s time for him to shine and get the type of respect he deserves. He’s got a new gym being built for him, he’s stated it himself, there is a lot of kids in this area that are good and he’s going to recuirt them and keep them home. MN is going to be the place for him to be reconize and appreciated for the rest of his life. I’m sure that is something he wants to do rather than chase the money. He want’s to be an elite coach and when you think of the school you think of him. Examples: Coach K/ Duke, Calhon/Uconn, Jimmy B/SU, and Patino/Louisville.

darkman97ParticipantBut as far as Corey Joseph coming here, I think that is a bad move for Corey (or any high ranking recuit wanting to go to the NBA) to play under this Tubby system. The way he subs groups of players sometimes even 5 at a time, is not the system a star player should want to be in. We had a very good chance with Harrison Barnes. He played his summer ball here in Minnesota and even his mother loves Tubby, but he wouldn’t be featured in the style of play we have here. One good example is how well Devoe is playing now that Nolan is not playing compared to how he played with him. Tubby is now forced to give Devoe more playing time and it is helping dramatically. You can’t get into a rythem when you are in and out so much.

Rock_Cat78ParticipantAll a rival coach that is recruiting Joseph needs to say is Rajon Rondo. Tubby had that kid in handcuffs at UK and even benched him late in his Sophomore year. Tubby’s style isn’t to feature individual talents. He had very few draft picks in his time at UK. He was at UK for ten years and only two kids he recruited became first round picks, Prince and Rondo and Rondo was a first rounder on his potential alone, not what he accomplished under Tubby.
