Hasheem Thabeet to D-League, good move or bad move?

it’s clear thabeet needs more polishing to be a threat in the NBA. yes the competition is less but the numbers thabeet is putting up are optimistic for the future. Maybe next year or the year after he can split time with Marc Gasol once Thabeet has improved.

This is a great move because he needs game experience and he would not get that in Memphis who are suddenly a good team and they dont have the time to let him learn because they are fighting for a playoff spot which may be beyond their reach but that is beside the point. More minutes and he can do more things and d league is a step above college and a step below nba so it should help him greatly. big men take the longest to develop anyway

it cant be anything but a good move. im sure being demoted doesntmatter because that pay check is still the same plus you get to get more time. this move will really help with his game and confidence

that nobody didnt expect that memphis can be in playoff run this year so they cant play a rookie that will not have constitant games like gasol is having…. if memphis was lottery team this year i believe that hasheem would play but now they need a polished players that can play in close minutes in games and that wont make some rookie mistakes… I think that warriors,kings and wizards would be perfect for him to develop as player cause those are loterry teams in next 3-4 years and they could use big man

i think thabeet will also raise the level of rep the d league has
because he will come back after his stint a much improved and better player and this means other developing players or benchwarmers will wanna go down there improve, come back to the L and be a force

naw players dont ever wanna go down to the dleauge.they wanna play with the big boys. itsliek a d1 player at the end ofthebench going toplay d2. they dont wanna do hat.they only do it if they have to. they much rather transfer to another d1 schoolto get time then to go to d2

his confidence probably took a hit but in the long run this will help him a lot. He wasn’t getting PT in memphis but know he is getting an opportunity to play and develop. nothing helps more than getting in game experience.

At first I thought it was a bad move. During the summer he played against D League quality players and didn’t really do anything. I thought what’s the point of sending him down to play with those players again? He probably won’t do anything and most importantly, his confidence could take a hit. I thought it’d be better for him if he stayed with the team and learned from the sidelines.

Seeing how well he’s playing though, it looks like it was a good move.

I have no issues with the move, even as a believer that Thabeet is already capable of contributing on the defensive end. This is what the D-League was created for, and it’s a shame teams don’t use it more often. I think the experience could be very beneficial to him, though I hope players don’t resent him for his comparatively huge contract.

imnot understanding youre point..reguardless where he was picked it was a good idea to send him down since he had players ahead of him who are playing like all stars. does it really matter where he was drafted?..that only matters in cooler talk because in the grand scheme of things its not big deal. couple of years ago almond was the first lotto pick to get sent down. farmer was the first first rounder to get sent down(i think). no big deal

Good move. He wasn’t ready to play in the NBA so you send him the Development League to let him develop. Simple as that.

Good move. If a young guy isn’t producing, regardless of where he was picked in the draft, he could use a spell or two in the D-League. John Bryant tore him a new one in their match-up though.

Yeah, remember this is a guy who just started playing ball at 14 or 15 years old. He’s 23 now, and doesn’t have the same natural basketball instincts as other prospects have. Remember how horrible and lost he looked as a frosh at uconn. Smh, I remember screaming at the tv screen because of this guy’s miscues and ineptitude. But this kids learning curve has been almost exponential since he’s got to college. If he was at uconn he’d prolly be national player of year (going out on a limb, point is he would’ve been dominant) based on the rate of growth this guy was showing at the collegiate level. Now going a step up, playing against men, the same size has him has been rough on him. Now he just needs to improve his timing, reflexes, and ability to react to the speed of the nba game, a common problem for most rookies. But he will certainly continue to improve gettin min in the d-league. I remember telling people this will almost be a redshirt year for thabeet in the nba before he was even drafted, knowing he still had things to work on and room to grow even in college. This guy will be a dominant shot blocker and defensive presence, its just a matter of when, not if. Like many of you mentioned, better he’s getting to play ball rather than sitting on the bench as a cheer leader.
