Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI have to admit as a lakers fan I am not at all excited for this to happen. I was really hoping that the lakers would let someone else take on Westbrook’s stat padding, mammoth contract, and terrible shooting. I would have much rather preferred them to look at cheaper, cleaner fitting options and go for a more balanced roster around their stars. Now they are most likely going to be a top-heavy team filling out the roster with veterans who are way past their prime (hello Melo!).
But the optimist in me at least needs to try to see the positive benefits of this, and at least Westbrook will hopefully take some of the playmaking responsibilities from lebron as he heads into his 19th season. I don’t think there is really any possibility he becomes a better shooter or anything, but maybe there will be subtle adjustments he can make to fit more into a team concept. This may be his last and best chance at a title.
Anyway, what do you think of the deal? I personally think that dumping Westbrook’s contract was a huge win for the wizards.1+ - Posted on: Thu, 07/29/2021 - 10:02am #1251244

canadabasketballisrisingParticipantAs a lakers fan I was hoping the buddy hield trade wouldv’e gone through not the Westbrook trade. I can see a lot of freeagents joining the lakers to win a ring tho- and this could work. JJ Redick, Myers Leonard, Carmelo, ersan illysova, and trevor ariza and brynn Forbes should all jump at the chance to play. Every single player picked up at this point needs to be able to shoot 35% or better from 3 or no thanks.

RUDEBOY-Participant41 million for westbrook, davis 37 million and lebron 38 million …Thats alot of money for 3 players, hey its the Lakers, they r always in a win now mode..worry bout 2morrow later..
But Considering the fact the Lakers had little cap space and few Assets. Props to Rob Pelinka and the front office were able to add a first Ballot Hall of Famer point guard to their roster.Westbrook is a solid defender, loves to attack the rim( 1 of the lakers weaknesses last yr) and 1 of the Hardest workers in the nba..
LAKERS GOT A DAWG!!! As a Lakers Fan I LOVE IT!!.

sniperParticipantI think that Russ at this point is an absolute nightmare offensively. On that end, his presence on the floor hurts his team (whichever team). His shooting percentages last season were 43/32/66, which are pretty much his career averages except for free throws (which should worry the Lakers — he’s 79% from the line for his career but fell off drastically last year). He also averaged 5 turnovers per game. His counting stats are like an optical illusion. We remember the makes and the assists more than we remember the misses and the turnovers. I suspect there’s a ton of players in the NBA, some I’ve barely heard of, who could average 22 points and 12 assists if, like Westbrook, they were given 36 minutes a game with 19 field goal attempts and a 30% usage rate
Defense is another story. When he locks in Russ is still maybe the best defensive guard in the league. He’s the best rebounding guard ever. Teammates say his intensity rubs off on them, and that’s probably worth a few wins every year. If he can just do those things, push the pace on offense and shoot a lot less, he could be the third star on a championship contender. But if he’s taking the ball out of the hands of the much more efficient LeBron and AD, just in order to do the same old Westbrook things, the Lakers are going to struggle IMO.
