The Prairie School boys basketball team did all it could to stop mighty Whitefish Bay Dominican Monday night, but it wasn't quite enough.
The Hawks were within 14-8 midway through the first quarter, but the Knights broke the game open for an 85-45 Metro Classic Conference victory at Prairie.
Dominican (18-3, 15-1 MCC) led 26-15 after the first quarter and 49-23 at halftime.
“Dominican’s size and athleticism took over,” Prairie coach Jason Atanasoff said. “We competed hard and showed flashes, but they are just superior to us physically.”
Troy Mikaelian led the Hawks (9-12, 4-11) with 16 points, going 6 of 10 from the field. James Butler added eight points.
One of the highlights of the night was a milestone reached by Dominican standout Diamond Stone, who reached the career 2,000-point mark. He needed 13 points and he finished with 25 (11 of 15 from the field) and has a total of 2,012 points and counting. According to Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association statistics, Stone is the 25th state boys player to reach 2,000 points.
