Coach Danny Manning of Wake Forest will have another opportunity to burnish his reputation as an excellent coach of big men.
John Collins, a 6-9, 230-pound power forward from West Palm Beach, committed Saturday morning to play for the Deacons.
“It feels pretty good to get all that weight off,’’ Collins said by phone. “I’m pretty happy about that.’’
Collins chose Wake Forest over offers from Miami, Memphis, Maryland, Texas, Tennessee, Kansas State, Georgia Tech and Alabama, giving the Deacons their second commitment of a high-profile recruit this week. Doral Moore, a 7-0 center from Montverde Academy in Florida committed to Wake Forest on Wednesday.
The two joined a class with Bryant Crawford, a 6-2 guard from Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. who committed to the Deacons last month.

Collins and Moore both visited together last weekend, and Collins said Moore’s decision was a factor.
“It helped a little bit,’’ Collins said. “A 7-0 center with athleticism and shot-blocking (ability), that does me good to have behind me.
“Not to say all I have to do is score. I also have to help rebound.’’
