Vanderbilt suspends G Dai-Jon Parker indefinitely

• Sophomore Dai-Jon Parker has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of non-academic policy
• Parker was one of only three returning players to participate in all 36 games last season
• Parker, projected to the be the starting shooting guard, averaged 1.7 points in 11.1 minutes

NASHVILLE — Vanderbilt sophomore Dai-Jon Parker has been suspended indefinitely from the men's basketball team for a violation of non-academic policy, according to a statement released by the university on Tuesday.

"Dai-Jon failed to uphold the high standard that we expect of a Vanderbilt basketball player and will be disciplined accordingly," coach Kevin Stallings said.

The Commodores play their first of two exhibitions game on Friday and open their season on Nov. 10 at home against Nicholls State.

Parker (6-3, 190) was projected to begin this season as the starting shooting guard.

Vanderbilt, picked to finish 10th in the SEC in the league's preseason media poll last week, has to replace all five starters and its top six players from a year ago.

The Commodores, who finished 25-11 last season, won the 2012 SEC tournament and were ranked No. 19 in the final 2011-12 USA TODAY Sports men's basketball coaches poll. Vanderbilt was also one of only two teams to beat national champion Kentucky last season.

A former three-sport star at Milton High (Ga.), Parker was among six Commodores and three returning players to participate in all 36 games last season.

He averaged 11.1 minutes, 1.7 points and one rebound as a freshman while making his biggest contribution on the defensive end thanks to his quickness.

Other available scholarship guards on the roster include projected starting sophomore point guard Kedren Johnson, junior Kyle Fuller, freshman A.J. Astroth and freshman guard/forward Kevin Bright.
