Syracuse center Fab Melo and Connecticut center Andre Drummond discuss future plans

Syracuse Orange Basketball 2011-2012: Big East Tournament SU vs UConnSyracuse's Fab Melo makes a bank shot over UConn's Alex Oriakhi in the second half of the Orange's quarterfinal game against UConn in the Big East Tournament.

New York — A couple times during breaks in Thursday’s quarterfinal action at Madison Square Garden, Fab Melo and Andre Drummond engaged in a bit of mid-game conversation.

The big men from Syracuse and Connecticut assumed spots on the Garden floor and waited for the game to resume from television breaks. Both players chatted and smiled. And then they battled each other once the game resumed.

So what was all that talk about?

“Just things that were going on in the game,” Melo said. “He was saying, ‘Man, you’re big.’ And I said, ‘You, too.’”

And then, the conversation switched to other topics.

“He asked if I was going to leave,” Melo said, referring to the NBA Draft. “And I said, ‘I don’t know.’”

Melo said he asked the same question of Drummond and got the same reply: “He doesn’t know.”

Melo thought the whole thing was hilarious. He kept smiling in the SU locker room when he was recounting the conversation.
