Syracuse basketball target Isaiah Stewart makes USA Basketball U17 team

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Isaiah Stewart, a coveted Class of 2019 forward/center from Rochester, has made USA Basketball's U17 team.

Stewart, who has a scholarship offer from Syracuse, recently trimmed his list of potential college destinations to 10.  The Orange was included on that list.

At 6-foot-9, Stewart is an imposing inside presence, a teenager who never takes a play off, who rebounds with abandon and finishes through contact inside.  He has been on Syracuse's radar for years, his muscular build and his athleticism early evidence of his potential.

He is now considered one of the best big man prospects in the Class of 2019.

Stewart will enter his senior year at La Luminere in Indiana in the fall.  He said during a late May conversation that he hoped to make the USA Basketball team and get a chance to travel to Argentina with a group of equally accomplished basketball achievers.  Stewart is one of three newcomers on the team; nine players had been on the gold-medal winning U16 team last year that qualified the United States for this summer's U17 FIBA World Cup.

USA Basketball's U17 team has never lost in the U17 championships.  It will stay in Colorado to train for the event and depart for Argentina on June 23.  The competition spans June 30-July 8.

The rest of the team:

Scottie Barnes (University School/West Palm Beach, Fla.);  Vernon Carey Jr. (University School/Southwest Ranches, Fla.);  Jalen Green (San Joaquin Memorial H.S./Fresno, Calif.);  R.J. Hampton (Little Elm H.S./Little Elm, Texas);  De'Vion Harmon (Guyer H.S./Corinth, Texas);  Evan Mobley (Rancho Christian H.S./Temecula, Calif.);  Wendell Moore Jr. (Cox Mill H.S./Charlotte, N.C.);  Isaac Okoro (McEachern H.S./Powder Springs, Ga.);  Jeremy Roach (Paul VI Catholic H.S./Leesburg, Va.); Jalen Suggs (Minnehaha Academy/Minneapolis, Minn.); and  Romeo Weems (New Haven H.S./New Haven, Mich.).
