Former Santa Clara guard Kevin Foster worked out at the Warriors’ practice facility Saturday and said it would be a “dream come true” to play so close to his adopted home.
“But at the same time I just want to get drafted somewhere,” he said.
Foster, the Broncos’ all-time leading scorer with 2,423 points, was of one of six players at the predraft workout. The others were Peyton Siva of national champion Louisville, E.J. Singler of Oregon, Chris Babb of Iowa State, Elijah Johnson of Kansas and Devon Moore of James Madison.
Foster is not projected to be selected in the June 27 NBA draft, but the 6-foot-2 guard said he’s open to playing in Europe or in the NBA Development League.
“If this dream doesn’t come true, I still want to play basketball because I love the game,” said Foster, who’s from Katy, Texas.
The 6-1 Siva is projected to be a mid-to-late second round pick. “My playmaking ability is pretty much what my calling card is,” he said.
The Warriors don’t have a pick in this draft but may need to fill holes, including at point guard if soon-to-be free agent Jarrett Jack signs elsewhere.
Basketball
Ivan Rabb of Bishop O’Dowd High had 10 points and 11 rebounds, leading Team USA to a 94-48 rout of Argentina in the gold-medal game of the FIBA Americas Under-16 Championships in Maldonaldo, Uruguay. He had 19 points in a 93-64 win over Puerto Rico in the semifinals.
Colleges
Saint Mary’s senior outfielder Cole Norton signed with the Colorado Rockies. Norton, a 39th-round draft pick last week, will report to either Grand Junction of the Pioneer League or Tri-City of the Northwest League.
Horse racing
Skydreamin got up in the final strides to win the $55,100 Lost in the Fog Stakes at Golden Gate Fields. Making his first start, Skydreamin ($5.20) won the five-furlong race for 2-year-olds by a head over Tupelo Cush in 1:00.64. Olympic Jumble was another nose back. “This is a quality colt,” winning jockey Russell Baze said of the Jeff Bonde-trained Skydreamin. … Sunday is closing day of the winter/spring meet. Racing resumes Thursday at the Alameda County Fair.
