Local basketball roundup: Bacon Academy rolls to easy win in opener

COLCHESTER — First-year varsity player Greg Baxter scored a career-high 16 points and hauled in five rebounds to lift the Bacon Academy boys basketball team to a 76-50 victory over Lyman Hall in its season opener on Saturday.

Sean Kelly recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and added five assists. Jimmy Matos contributed 11 points and seven assists and Austin Prevost added eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Bobcats.

MONTVILLE — T.T Bowens notched a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds to help the Indians begin their season with a victory.

Eric Beavin also had a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards and Cody Calash hit three 3-pointers as part of a 20-point night for Montville.

HARTFORD — Isaiah McNair scored 35 points, including 25 in the first half, to lead the Colonels to a win at Trinity College.

Freshman Kevin Turner added 14 points and eight rebounds for Ledyard.

BARRINGTON, R.I. — The Mustangs held 6-foot-10-inch University of Kentucky recruit, Wenyen Gabriel, to 10 points at the St. Andrew’s Basketball Classic.

Eric Ayala led Putnam Science with 13 points while Tyere Marshall added 11. Hamidou Diallo added nine points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Mustangs, winners of 11 of their first 12 games, are now off for three weeks for the holiday break.

Golden Knights win 2

WESTON, Mass. — Marianapolis won its final two games at the Rivers Holiday Tournament, defeating Northfield Mount Hermon, 63-54, in the morning before topping Taft School, 48-45, in the afternoon.

In the opener, Jordan Frye scored 16 points and made six steals and Sophia Widmeyer added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Knights (6-2).

In the second game, all-tournament selection Caroline Soucy totaled 16 points and seven steals and Nicole Anderson finished with 11 points and four rebounds.

WORCESTER — East Lyme alum Carynn Bartolucci scored 19 points, going 5 of 10 from beyond the arc, to lead the Pointers to victory.

Lyman Memorial grad Briana Padewski totaled 13 points and four rebounds, Stonington alum Falecia Cabral had seven points and 14 boards and Jess Korzec added 20 points and seven assists for UConn-Avery Point (6-4).
