The Nuggets cut some big names Thursday from their preseason roster, including former Denver-area prep standout Nick Fazekas and veteran forward Ruben Patterson, the team said.

The Nuggets reduced their lineup to 14 players, likely the season-opening roster when the team plays at Utah on Wednesday. NBA teams suit 12 players for each game, with up to three reserves.

Fazekas was an all-Western Athletic Conference forward at Nevada who was a prep star at Arvada’s Ralston Valley. Patterson is a 10-year pro who played for Denver in 2005-06 and the L.A. Clippers last season.

Also cut were guards Smush Parker and Mateen Cleaves and forward James Mays.
