Zach Brown, the 7-foot center from Miami and one of the top recruits in the Class of 2017, will not be coming to UConn.

Brown, who committed to UConn in January but was later released from Putnam Science Academy, will be parting ways with UConn by mutual agreement, according to Scout.com’s Evan Daniels, citing a source.

It’s no surprise. Brown, who played as a freshman and sophomore at Miami Beach High School, transferred to Miami High for 2015. But Brown was suspended by the Florida High School Athletic Association after a fight on Dec. 21, the Miami Herald reported. He enrolled at Putnam Academy shortly after announcing he was committing to UConn on Jan. 20, and there was talk of his speeding up his schoolwork in an effort to reclassify to the Class of 2016.

Brown was involved in another fight after a tournament in Rhode Island and Putnam announced on Feb. 17 that he was no longer enrolled there. Brown returned to Miami Beach High. He is currently playing for a Miami-based AAU team. Scout.com ranks Brown 30th among 2017 recruits. ESPN ranked him 25th at the time of his commitment.

UConn coaches cannot comment on recruits until they sign a letter of intent, which will not be happening here.
