SOFIA (FIBA U16 European Championship Division B 2016) - Russia finished off a fantastic tournament claiming gold in Bulgaria. Israel had to settle for silver, while Slovenia also won promotion to Division A.

Russia led for all but two and a half minutes in the Final, and the advantage grew as big as 15 points. Israel clawed back within five in the last minute, but Russia held on for an 82-76 win, dominating the rebounding battle in the process. The Russians grabbed 18 offensive rebounds, compared to nine for their opponents, who have also turned the ball over 19 times.

The Most Valuable Player of the championship played a superb game in the Final. Alexander Shashkov collected 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks against Israel, and had a team-mate join him in the All-Star Five. Konstantin Shevchuk scored 19 points and dished out seven assists in the Final.

Alongside Shashkov and Shevchuk, Israel's Eidan Alber, Ukraine's Denys Klevzunyk and Slovenia's Nik Dragan were also included in the All-Star Five.

Dragan led Slovenia back to Division A. His 25 points, 10 rebounds and three steals were all team-highs in a 79-71 win over Ukraine in the Third-Place Game, while Gregor Glas and Maksim Gorbachov combined for 28 points. Klevzunyk finished with 19 points for Ukraine.

Behind Russia, Israel, Slovenia and Ukraine, England clinched fifth place with a 72-53 triumph against Belarus. Belgium finished 7th following their 75-64 win over Czech Republic, and Portugal defeated Slovak Republic 56-45 to finish 9th.

The Netherlands are 11th after a 69-47 victory over Georgia. Hungary ended the championship in 13th place with an 80-46 win against Kosovo, and Mihai Maciuca had 35 points to guide Romania to an 88-77 success against The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the battle for 15th spot.

Bulgaria defeated Norway 77-58, which was good enough to give the home team 17th spot. Denmark are 19th following an 81-71 win against Ireland, and Iceland finished ahead of Austria with an 87-67 win.

Scotland had to settle for last spot after falling to Luxembourg, 59-68.
