Lake Oswego's Calvin Hermanson had game highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds as Oregon held off a second-half surge to beat Washington 113-111 in the Northwest Shootout all-star boys basketball game Saturday night at the Chiles Center.
Hermanson scored seven consecutive Oregon points in the final two minutes, making five of six free-throw attempts, for a 112-108 lead. Washington had a chance to tie or win on its last possession, but Silverton's Zach Gengler blocked a jumper by Curtis' Dominic Robinson at the buzzer.
Oregon built a 57-43 halftime lead but Washington went on a 26-11 run to start the second half, taking a 69-68 lead. Garfield's Tucker Haymond, who led Washington with 26 points, had 14 points in the surge.
But Oregon regained control and held on to win and take a 10-8 lead in the series, ending a five-game losing streak. Gengler had 19 points, six assists and five steals and West Salem's Alex Roth added 15 points.
"It was a very physical game," said Hermanson, who was named the game's most valuable player. "They came out hard and made a big run in the second half, and I was really proud of the guys for staying strong and playing together. We were really able to grind out the win tonight."
University's Brett Bailey added 25 points for Washington.
