OAKLAND — Liam Hunt (14 points), Brandon Kenilvort (12 points) and Lucas Chavez (11 points) all scored in double figures for the No. 4 Pirates, but they could not keep up with the top-seeded Dragons in a 69-46 loss in the North Coast Section Division III semifinals. Kenilvort pulled down eight rebounds, Hunt grabbed four boards and blocked four shots and Matt Potter added six rebounds and three assists.
“We played an awesome team in Bishop O’Dowd tonight,” Drake coach Doug Donelllan said. “We battled them hard but we just didn’t knock down shots.”
The Pirates (24-6) fell behind in the second quarter when Bishop outscored them 13-2. The drought continued into the third quarter with the Dragons opening a 9-3 run and Drake could not recover. Ivan Rabb scored 27 points for the Dragons (25-3).
