In the days leading up to the McDonald’s All American Games in Chicago, USA TODAY High School Sports will be catching up with various players to talk about their experiences. In this entry, we talk to Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) center Stephen Zimmerman, who remains uncommitted.

Being here is a blessing and amazing. I’m happy to be here and be able to play against all these great players. The thing that stands out is how competitive it is. No one wants to make a mistake and everyone is going their hardest. I heard it was going to be competitive, but it’s at a whole different level.

Caleb Swanigan has really stood out to me. I have to go against him in practice and let me tell you, he is a grown man. He’s real physical and I like playing against him.

On the way to the 3-point and dunk contests I was thinking about the dunks I was going to do. I had them in order on the bus ride there. I just wish I would have put down that last dunk, because I think I would have had a good chance of winning. The dunk off the side of the backboard was my favorite because I had never windmilled like that before. But everyone seemed to like the dunk where I had Jalen (Brunson) take a video and I jumped over him.

Playing at Bishop Gorman is a lot of fun. There’s a lot of good players who push you in practice. I sure hope our rivalry with Findlay Prep is getting more national attention. This year it was a really close game and hopefully we can get them next year.

With the college season ending and people deciding on the draft and committing, that should help me make a decision. Right now I’m just talking with my parents about how things might play out if I go to different places, and my parents just want me to go somewhere I might be successful.

I’m still getting recruited. The strangest thing I’ve encountered in recruiting was early in the process, when I was a sophomore, a coach asked me if I liked girls. I said, “Yes,” and he followed with, “We’ve got a lot of cute girls out here.” I still remember that.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a lot of fun and we’ll be able to put on a show. I expect a lot of competitiveness and for everyone to go at each other and be talking. It should be a lot of fun.
