Louisville's Chane Behanan, shown hugging Michigan guard Trey Burke during last season's NCAA championship game, has been cleared to return to practice by Cardinals coach Rick Pitino.

Louisville coach Rick Pitino said Friday that forward Chane Behanan will return to practice with the Cardinals for the first time since announcing the junior's indefinite suspension for violation of school and team policy on Oct. 17.

"I don't know" a timetable for Behanan's return, said Pitino, who noted that the junior "has done all the right things I've asked" over the past 30 days.

Pitino did say Behanan definitely won't play in the Cardinals' season opener Saturday against the College of Charleston, and neither will senior Luke Hancock, who's dealing with a lingering Achilles' tendon injury.

"I think Chane is embarrassed, and when he's embarrassed he does the right things," Pitino said.

Behanan will sit on the bench Saturday with teammates during the opener, which will double as a 2013 national championship celebration.
