Lawrence Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) point guard Kyle Guy is fully aware that was never a shoo-in to suit up in the McDonald’s All American Game; that’s why, last month when he learned he’d made the game, he was so filled with emotion and excitement that he immediately buried his face in his hands and dropped his head.

“I knew I was one of the guys that was on the bubble,” said Guy, a Virginia signee who is ranked No. 24 overall in the ESPN 100. “I had always dreamed of playing in the McDonald’s All American Game, and I felt like after all of the hard work that I put in I’d earned, but then to find out that I had actually achieved that was just amazing.”

Guy had a similar feeling Tuesday afternoon when he received his honorary McDonald’s All American Game jersey during a ceremony at his school as part of the McDonald’s All American Game Hometown Heroes presented by American Family Insurance.

“Wow, I’m one of the 24 boys in the whole entire world that get this honor,” Guy said. “It’s such an honor; I can’t even tell you!”

This season, Guy is averaging 25 points, six rebounds and five assists a game. He said he’s focused on winning his first state title before heading off to Chicago.

“Indiana is no joke,” Guy said. “We’ve got four people in our sectional that are ranked in the top 100 and all of the teams are good. But this is our best team by far and if we stay together and play as a team we should be fine. I’m just focused on winning.”

He’s also got his sights set on the POWERADE Jam Fest three-point contest trophy.

Guy said he’s 1-1 in three-point contests.

“So I need the McDonald’s one,” Guy said with a laugh. “It should be fun. I’m just looking forward to getting down there and playing in front of NBA GM’s and scouts and representing my state. It’s gonna be fun.”
