No. 1 senior wing Jaylen Brown blogs about USA Camp, upcoming visits, AP Psychology and more

After a stellar junior season, in which he led Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.) to a runner-up finish in the state tournament averaging 20 points and five assists a game, Jaylen Brown began one of the most dominant AAU campaigns of the summer leading Game Elite (Ga.) with 26.1 points and 8.6 rebounds a game. His stellar play has college basketball heavyweights like Kansas, UCLA and Kentucky, among many others, in hot pursuit. Brown, who is ranked No. 2 overall in the ESPN 100, has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to everyday life in a blog.

Hey what’s up everybody it’s J.B. and I’m back with the latest blog.

I’m just happy to be here because, about a month ago, I got into a car accident and it really opened my eyes to the things that are important.

What I took from that was that I want to continue to stay on the right path and continue to pursue what I feel I’ve been blessed with the abilities to do. It just humbles you when you go through things like that and it made me even more appreciative of the little things that I’m blessed to have in my life.

Things with my recruitment have cooled down a lot, but now I’m getting ready to go out on some of these official visits.

First, I’m going to Kansas October 10 for Late Night in the Phog. After that I’m going to Kentucky for Big Blue Madness on October 17 then I’m planning to go to UCLA on November 15, but I’m thinking about switching that date.

Those are all the visits I have setup right now, but there will be more.

These official visits are gonna be crucial; it’s probably gonna be the deciding factor for me so I’m hoping that people will be straight up with me.

I already had in-homes with Georgia and Georgia Tech too and those went really well.

It’s tough because all of the schools offer a lot of great things.

I haven’t cut my list or narrowed anything down and, honestly, if another school wants to come in they can. Whoever wants to jump in they can definitely do that. I won’t have any hard feelings that you haven’t recruited me as hard yet because I understand that it’s a business.

I want to be able to talk to as many coaches as I can because I want to make the best decision that I can.

I know that character of the coach and education are two things that will rank really high with me when it comes to making a decision. I’ll be looking to major in sports management and minoring in marketing or business. It’s really important to me that the school I go to has a strong marketing program.

That’s the good thing about all of the schools that are recruiting me; I can’t go wrong with any of them.

I won’t make my decision based off the name of the school or who went there or anything like that.

I’ve been having some interesting conversations with the coaches here lately; like UCLA always tells me about the funny stuff Tony Parker does over there. Tony is from my area and that’s my man!

The coaches call him the big Kevin Hart! That guy is crazy; he’s doing his thing out there.

Another thing that I thought was cool was that Coach Cal told me about his relationship with Drake and they’re actually really close. They text and everything like that. That’s pretty cool. I’m definitely a fan of Drake and I think he’s actually gonna be there when I’m there for my visit to Kentucky so I’m definitely looking forward to that.

I actually went to Drake’s concert recently and he put on a great show. I’d give it a 9 out of 10; I had a ball!

As for my decision; I’m probably looking at waiting it out and maybe making a decision at the McDonald’s All-American game if I’m fortunate enough to make the team. I’m looking at making my decision as late as possible, but, at the same time, when you know you know.

I know at first I was wanting to get this process over with really quick because it was just a lot dealing with all of the coaches constantly contacting me, but the cool thing is that the coaches read my blog when I talked about not liking all that stuff and asked me how I wanted them to go about contacting me. I told them that I don’t need to hear from them all the time and ever since then it’s been great.

Of course there are still a couple schools that hit me too much, but it’s way better now. I’m enjoying it now.

I think it’s cool that they read to blog and listened to what I wanted.

Before I start up my visits, I’ll be attending the USA mini-camp from October 3-5. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing some of the guys that I got cool with over the summer like Chase Jeter, Antonio Blakeney, Brandon Ingram, Isaiah Briscoe and Jayson Tatum. I’m not sure if they’ll all be there, but I’m looking forward to getting out there and putting in some work with my guys.

School is going good too.

So far my favorite class is AP Psychology; it’s the study of the mind and how it works and learning why people respond certain ways and learning how to manipulate the mind. It’s very intriguing.

I may even use what I learned with some of these coaches! Haha!

I’m also reading a book called “Relentless” by Tim Grover and it’s really, really good so far.

So far I’ve been learning about how confidence can take you a long way and how being in an aggressive state at all times is important.

I’ve been seeing a lot of my guys out there talking about their rap skills, and I don’t know if y’all know this but I actually rap a little bit too! Haha!

I think all basketball players want to rappers and all rappers want to be hoopers on some level.

Malik Newman and Dennis Smith are my boys, but they don’t want to see me in a rap battle. I’m challenging both of them as a matter of fact!

If they want to do it just let me know.

OK, y’all know I give you a fashion tip at the end of every blog so today’s tip is: Don’t wear a nice and clean outfit with dirty shoes! Clean outfit; clean shoes!

Aight, again this is your boy J.B. and I want to thank you again for reading my blog.

I’ll be back soon after my visits to let y’all know how they went.

Have a blessed day!
