Iowa State got its guy.

Virginia transfer Marial Shayok has accepted basketball coach Steve Prohm’s scholarship offer, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

The 6-foot-5 combo player averaged 8.9 points and 2.4 rebounds last season. He started 14 of the Cavaliers’ 34 games. He scored 23 points in Virginia’s first-round NCAA Tournament victory against UNC-Wilmington.

Shayok will sit out next season, then have one season of Cyclones eligibility remaining.

He’s comparable to departing senior Matt Thomas. A solid perimeter defender, Shayok shot 44 percent from the field, including 33 percent from 3-point range.

Iowa State is still pursuing Hutchinson Community College forward Shakur Juiston, the nation’s top junior college recruit, according to most recruiting websites. Juiston visited the Cyclones last weekend. He’s also visited UNLV and DePaul.

Prohm has three scholarships for next season available.

Virginia guard Marial Shayok is transferring to Iowa State. He'll have one year of eligibility remaining in 2018-19.
