Okay. I don’t usually comment on these but why in the world is this site comparing Zhaire Smith to JR Smith?? That has to be one of the laziest and worst comparisons this site has ever had on a player. For real.

Those 2 players share only 1 thing in common, athleticsm. But their playing styles cannot be any more different. I’d compare Zhaire to Ronnie Brewer, it’s not perfect but its also not JR Smith bad. Cmon now nbadraft.net

I understand the comparison (great athleticism, above average three point shooting ), but I agree, that definitely disregards the parts of Zhaire’s game that don’t get talked about a lot – his passing and defense. I think Josh Richardson would be a more nuanced comparison.

That’s a really good comparison actually, never thought of that, hough Josh may be a more capable ball-handler and three point shooter at this stage. I do definitely see the similarities.

To elaborate, JR Smith has a game centered around creating in the perimeter be it with his dribble or in catch and shoot situations. JR also never really was a finisher around the rim even back then.

Zhaire Smith on the other hand has a game centered around cutting to the basket with the occasional spot -up three as well as being a plus defender and rebounder on the court. He doesn’t have close to the ball-skills JR has, and JR doesn’t have the defensive ability and rebounding ability Zhaire has.

I was watching the tape on Zhaire last night. I agree JR Smith comparison is terrible. JR can shoot. I didnt see this kid shooting from the outside much at Tech. I see a more phsiycal Avery Bradley

Tony Allen would be the better comp.  Similar size, too.  And, pre-injury he was really bouncy.

There is a lot of Tony Allen in his game. Not sure why you are getting thumb downs. Heck Tony Allen had better stats across the board his freshman year.

i think he has some intriguing defensive potential, but being barely 6’4" without a 3 point shot or PG skills it’s not a good thing for today’s game with his height; personally i wouldn’t invest a lottery pick on him.

it’s difficult to find a comparison for him, he could be somewhere in between Shannon Brown and Desmond mason but that’s still not accurate.

i think the player he reminds me the most is someone whom most youngsters here probably don’t know, but for the old-schoolers here, he reminds me to Blue Edwards.

I see him as a similar player to Elliot Williams (size and athletism), but I hope he doesn’t fizzle out like Williams did. I think he can have a similar impact on the game as an Avery Bradley.

Zhaire has a shot a bit like Wesley Mathews, it’s ugly but goes in. He’s seems like an energy player. Having seen the NBadraft.net mock draft that is ridiculous. It’s a amazing how much a few NCAA tournament games can boost a players stock

Jordan Crawford was infamous for this.

Jordan Crawford was a 2nd round pick. Zhaire Smith is projected at 13 by this B.S. site. Jordan Crawford was always a good player and still is. It’s a shame no one signs him. Zhaire Smith rhymes with J.R. Smith. I can see why the dunces here at NBAdraft.net compared him to him.

nah I think Zaire’s a really good player. I’m just disturbed how much he jumped up after Texas techs tournament run. Makes me think the people here at nbadrat.net aren’t doin their job

I would say Raja Bell would be a good comparison.  Similar builds, solid defenders, not really playermakers themselves but can spot up and cut.

He reminds me of Fred Jones, former Oregon Duck and NBA Slam Dunk Champion. Explosive athlete off 2 feet with a strong frame and long arms  and raw and underdeveloped perimeter skills despite being a bit undersized for a wing. I had actually forgot about him until I made this comment lol

After having watched him I would definitely say some of his alley oops definitely give me flashbacks of JR Smith’s younger years, but yes you’re right, JR is not a fully accurate comp.
