Prime TimeParticipantDipo’s first dunk was nice. LaVine is a freak. Wiggins should’ve been in it.

Reptilian MonkParticipantLavine made it look easy and has way crazier dunks up his sleeve. Next year will be crazy in Toronto. Bet it’s Lavine, Wiggins, and T Ross

properbreaksParticipantIt’s in Toronto next year??? That’s crazy…. You have a point. They have two dunk champs and maybe the only other guy in the league who I think could defeat LAvine. If all 3 of them get in it, I think they might extend it past 4 competitors.

sitlbitoParticipantWhat about Aaron Gordon? Looks like he has crazy creativity,to go along with his athleticism. T-Ross basically said he wouldn’t really like to do it again though, but maybe he’d accept in Toronto.

TheLastWordParticipantUnfortunately he lacks both the ability to get to the line and an NBA 3 point shot. This is traditionally a death sentence for any NBA SG, but has youth and hops on his side.

omphalosParticipantUm, what? LaVine’s shooting from outside is fine, he’s got a good stroke and he’s still young.
FT line and finishing with the left is a problem, but the Timberwolves got an absolute steal in LaVine.

phila9012ParticipantYeah, he is affraid of contact, if he adds more strength and becomes more confident around the hoop he will be in great shape offensively. He has a lot of potential defensively but as of now he is a pretty bad defender. That should also improve if he just focuses on it. Overall I like his potential a lot a twolves fan. He is very raw and probably wouldn’t be playing if the team was trying to win. I think a week or 2 in the d league would help him a lot with his confidence around the rim especially now that everyone is back

Lotto StudParticipantDoc doesn’t need to be a judge. He’s too set in his ways. There shouldn’t have been any hesitation on a 10 from him. Doc was digging through cards as if he was about to spin a record. I understand all he has done in his era, but he doesn’t deserve to be on the panel.
I am very appreciative that Anthony Anderson called Tiny Archibald out on his BS.

BiggysmallsParticipantCool dunk but wow can Kenny and Reggie get more annoying. My gawd, they wouldn’t shut up, yelled over and over again like a couple of damn kids who’d never seen a dunk before. Somebody needs to tell them that they thing wasn’t about them and to let the atmosphere do some of the talking.
I’ll be honest, as a wolves fan the dunks were cool but doesn’t it seem like LaVine literally only cares about dunking? I swear that’s all he talked about when he got drafted and that’s all he seems to want to do haha. Hopefully he can develop into half the player his dunking ability would suggest he is so this isn’t the peak of his career.

Jr. ROXASParticipantKenny was ok, that’s what he does and he does it well honestly. He was important to get the crowd more hyped up with the contest. Now Reggie is another story. I don’t what with him but he SUPER annoying for me. He tries to be like Kenny and speak like Kenny but overdoes it that you’d want him to just shut up.

sitlbitoParticipantI don’t agree that he does it well. According to some journalist not far away from where he was in the crowd, the only thing you heard was “shut up” “shut the hell up”. I think the crowd would have been more hyped up with a more traditionnal announcer(I don’t exactly know how it’s called, but the guys who do the introductions). It looked like they were all listening to what they say,so they waited for the dunk to happen to make some noise.

sitlbitoParticipantHis dunk with wiggins holding the ball should have been a 10 and would have been a ten if it was another player. Did they really give them “only” a 45 because he missed the first? They gave Oladipo a 50 when he missed twice. It was a bit of a one man show,Giannis and Plumlee were disappointing, especially Giannis, looks like he iced the crowd right away with his 3 missed dunks. I don’t want to judge athletes like that, they still do unbelievable stuff, but the dunk Giannis missed wouldn’t even have been a 50,he basically threw the second dunk away. Can’t blame Oladipo,he would have had to do crazy stuff to beat Lavine and give him credit for attempting. I still want them to get rid of the singing and all the props.

Meditated StatesParticipantLavine will be fine but him and Smart are scared of the contact. They need to overcome it to be good players. Their shots will improve over time. They have to adjust to shooting over legth.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantWhat? Yeah he can dunk but thats not all he cares about. When he was at UCLA he always talked about being better at shooting and being more consistent. His jumper is so effortless and smooth. Of course he can dunk, but he will put it all together with time. He will be 20 in March, he is still young. Guys like Kobe, Jordan, VC, T Mac and Jr Smith were labeled "just dunkers" when they first came in to the league, then look what happened. They all became better shooters and their footwork is amazing. Lavine has talked about how much of a Kobe fan he is and thats why he chose 8. Lavine is getting better. I was not surprised last night at the contest. I knew about him since he was at Bothell because me and my older brother not only study every player, but allot of Seattle area kids closely as well.
Wish my Sixers would have took him instead of Saric. SMH

PhillytheKidI really really liked the kid.
I think he’ll fix his shot. Brett Brown woudl’ve done a lot with this kid.
I am just surprsied he’s a poor defender in the NBA and his shot is silky smooth but never falls in the NBA.
I think once he grows into his body some more the shot will fall.
Right now his obvious weaknesses are failing to attack the rim and taking contact, defending, and shooting. His handle hasn’t been all that impressive either.
I think his freak athleticism was definitely worth taking because of the potential. I’d rather have him and then this year grab Karl Towns.
Lavine, MCW, Embiid, Noel, Towns, and (Grant, KJ, and Covington).

agentoaktreeParticipantPlayed against him in HS 3 years ago, and he was’nt known around Seattle as a dunker. His jumpers is silk and he would get his buckets by just dribbling and waiting until you put your hands down and than smoothly letting it go. His senior year of HS he became known more of as a dunker because he grew two inches and started to have that sort of effortless glide. I agree with your conclusion full-heartedly. Like you, I wasn’t surprised because these dunks were performed by him at the Seattle pro-am this past July. http://www.youtube.com/watch

McDunkinListening to Kenny Smith announce a dunk contest is like listening to the announcers in the older 2k/Live games their lines are ok at first but it seems like you’ve heard each one about 4 times by the end of the game.
And damn it Plumlee why didn’t you bust out the 3 ball dunk

Memphis MadnessParticipantHe made some really great, unique dunks. He got that part right. Then he glides to the goal. He also looks like he was jumping on a trampoline.
Great dunker.
Hopefully he competes to defend his title next year.
I loved Oladipo’s first dunk. Reminded me of a guy I have compared Dipo to (at least as far as size and athleticism) — David Thompson and his baseline 360 in the ABA dunk contest.
Greek Freak should have stopped all he bounce and gimmick stuff and just gone in strong using his length to attack. He should have gone with some Larry Nance or Kenny Walker stuff.

IndianaBasketballParticipantLaVine was amazing and put up an all-time great performance… Oladipo’s 540 was a phenomenal dunk too… But I wasn’t very impressed with the other dunks.
By the end of the night, I was super tired of the Greek Freak and his brother front running on the sideline…

dmo21ParticipantI don’t know why people keep calling this a 540. He rotated once, thus a 360. He came running towards the net and spun once and did a reverse dunk. If he did a 540 he should have ended up looking back where he came from.

mgreener_34ParticipantRight! At first I was second guessing myself thinking that I had overlooked some unknown rookie this year, then I heard Reggie say who it was and was dissapointed. You’d think that dude was already a star in the NBA!
I did like all the love that was going around though. Between the Plumlee brothers and seeing all the young teammates supporting each other, I think it added to the atmosphere.
Except for the "Elphrid Payton teammate dunk" name. That I could do with out!

sitlbitoParticipantYeah it’s a 360,but it’s as much a 540 as most of the so called 360 are actual 360. The Vnce Carter dunk in 2000 was not a 360 then,as most of the players start with their back to the basket.

BiggysmallsParticipant@TaylorMikeGang…I hope you are right. I go back and forth between hating watching Zach play and reminding myself that he really should be just starting to play if Rubio and Mo wouldve been healthy to this point. He isn’t a point guard at all and can’t defend which drive me nuts but as you mentioned he’s crazy young and just needs to grow in a lot of ways. I just hope he doesn’t get satisfied with being a cool dunker.
If he can put on about 20 pounds, and develop in the mental part of the game, I see him as a Nick Young type player (not the idiot one) who excels in an offense off the bench role.
