Youtubers calling players Overrated.

I've seen a swath of Youtubers making videos about how certain players are overrated. Players I've seen mentioned are Steve Francis, Earl Monroe, Marbury, Walt Frazier, Jerry West, Bill Russell, Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, Al Horford, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, Reggie Miller.... you get the point.

This. Is. Stupid.

People who look at analytics think you can look at Turnover percentage, TS%, and wins, and think they understand game situation and skillset. Just because a player wasnt as good as you thought they could be, like Carter and Francis, wasnt as effecient as their legecy would suggest, like Iverson or Westbrook, or the era wasnt competitive, like Russell and Chamberlain, doesnt mean theyre overrated.

It means you have no context. To take some of the best players in the NBA and say theyre overrated because they arent the very best (or they are, and you dont believe it) is stupid. Almost every NBA player is properly rated by people who know and watch the game. No one thinks Carmelo is a superstar, but he is a hall of famer and a spectacular scorer in his prime. Saying Vince should have been better completely dismisses how damn good he was for over a decade. Saying Iversons shooting percentages discount him from legendary status ignores the players he fought against and how he carried teams.

This forum isnt the issue. Idiots on youtube are, and it needs to stop. Stop rewriting NBA history.

The people who post these

The people who post these videos are young and never watched or understand the playing style, rules of those respective generations. People trolling for views. Some reason Trolling has became cool..I don't understand..

There are some very good youtubers that you guys might know/like. Andy Hoops, Jimmer Range and CaineLovesCali comes to mind. Might want to check these out if you don't already have. These guys know their stuff. I would just avoid the trolls though.

He never averaged over 16 shots per game in a season

His career high is 57 points though, where he shot 16-29 against the Charlotte Hornets in 1992.

Not trying to be a know-it-all...... Reggie was one of my favorite players as a kid.

I always hated Reggie Miller.

I always hated Reggie Miller. 1) Because he’d beat up on my team 2) He is the biggest complainer to have ever walked the floor.

Totally fine as an announcer.

Overrated means rated over

Overrated means rated over what they should be. Nothing more. If your 2nd and people think you're first, you're overrated.

Some of the players you listed (Iverson and Westbrook) are literally the most overrated players of all time.

This is the equivalent of looking at NFL players from the 80's

and 90's & saying they suck or are over rated b/c the QB's completion %'s are no where near what today's are or the WR's are way better today b/c their #'s are better - even though back then guys had to worry about getting their heads knocked off on the field & D-Backs could hold all over the field

I Luv analytics but you Must include Context w/ the analytics. You can Never just look at #'s b/c the game was Played Differently back then

Just like the NFL today where you can Not even touch QB's or WR's in today's NBA you can Not even Touch a Perimeter player - in the 60's you can use TWO hands to Hand check. You could Hold going around screens

And in the 80's & 90's the League changed to only One hand hand checks but these guys are Strong & they could Steer you w/ that One hand

And b/c you could beat up smaller perimeter players it was a Center focused league b/c the biggest & strongest won the game. Steph Curry's father played in the 90's & he was a GREAT shooter but b/c he never had free reign on the perimeter he was limited as a thinner & not as strong player. Guys like Steph Curry & Trae Young would Really struggle back then b/c opponents would just beat them up physically

I am Not saying this is right but it IS what happened - & this is why a guy like Allen Iverson was one of the Best players who Ever lived! I don't think people get that Iverson is one of the Greatest Athletes that America has Ever produced - he was a state champion football & basketball player & was one of the Best Football prospects to Ever come out of the state of Virginia - Football was considered Iverson's Better sport b/c he had Dion Sanders like ability as a D back & Mike Vick level ability as a QB

Iverson played Basketball like a Football player. At 5'11'' 160 Lbs Iverson was the quickest & fastest player in the League & it was Not close - No one could guard Iverson - he ate Everyone Alive & that was WITH the hand check & Iverson Attacked the Rim like no player I have EVER seen! Iverson would get knocked to the floor from over 10 ft in the air 20X EVERY game by player a full foot taller & 100 Lbs heavier EVERY single game!

This Easily took 5 years off Iverson's career. Unless you saw it you do Not understand it. I have Never seen an athlete who better represented a city as well as Iverson. If you understand Phila you understand it's pure Hood culture & I mean that as an Extreme Compliment. Places like Phila & Boston & NY are some of the Only places left in the country that literally Pump Testosterone. And I'm not talking about the Suburban Ucktard Phila fans U see acting like a fool at games - I'm talking about the Inner City

Phila is as Rough & Rugged & Raw as it gets & that was Iverson to the Core. Young fans just do not understand this - at Iverson's peak from 96' - 03' Bubba Chuck was a Global Cultural Icon --- Kobe wanted to BE like Iverson. Go look at U-Tube Videos around 2002 & you will hear Kobe trying to talk street slang - this was how powerful Iverson's influence was over the Entire NBA & the League HATED it. That Phila team Iverson led was as tough a Defensive Unit as you would ever see & it just fit w/ that city.

If Iverson played in today's game he would Avg 40 pts a game in his Sleep. That's just One example, You can't look at stats where one group of players has to practially fist fight to get points & then look at another group playing totally stress free, no physical intimidation at all, they can shoot & drive & no one can lay a hand on them & then turn around & say that 1st group is over rated b/c their Shooting %'s aren't as High --- I would argue the REVERSE is True
