ChoppyParticipantAs of now, the worst free throw shooter on the Pistons is NOT Andre Drummond. Mr Josh ‘$13.5mil’ Smith is sucking the most at 41% from the stripe. Seriously, what is this guys problem? If you can’t hit a set shot from that close, why do you then think a contested 3 might go in?
Has there ever been anyone who is a good 3pt shooter and a terrible free throw shooter?

TimeForNineParticipantChandler Parsons was like that at Florida, if my memory serves correctly. I think he was shooting around 50% from the line.

r377ParticipantYeh I saw Josh Smith go 2/10 FT the other day. He used to shoot around 70% earlier in his career but now is around the 50% mark the past few seasons.
Maybe his arms getting fatigued from chucking all those shots during the game….

psam24ParticipantWhat happened to the old Josh Smith? He used to be a shot-blocking and athletic marvel in his early Atlanta days. That’s the Josh Smith I used to love watching.

kanuflengParticipantwell, it’s the Pistons fault. they signed him and put him in the worst possible position, the 3. Josh Smith would get back to his 16 8 4 1 2 days if he’s on another team and playing the 4 which, even though its hard to say now, he is effective. Besides this, it’s just not good for the development of Greg and Drummond.

OhCanada-ParticipantSorry to defend another guy on the NBADraft.net villian list (David Kahn, Andrea Bargnani, Darko Milicic, James Harden…) but this cant all be on Smith. Now I understand he isnt playing well and kets be honest he should be hitting those FTs at the very least but he cant shoot. Now when you are starting Smith, Monroe, and Drummond in todays NBA somebody has to be able to stretch the floor and hit jumpshots. Each of those players offensive games desperately rely on having at least three capable shooters on the floor with them in order to be efficient.
I may not have many people agree but I think the Pistons organization and whoever pulled the trigger on the signing is more to blame. This just wont work both Smith and Monroe need to be moved because neither player is compatible with Drummond do to a lack of mobility from Greg and a lack of shooting from Josh and vice versa because Drummonds offensive game is irrelavant from any further then five feet.
Then you have the other two shooters usually KCP and Jennings become contested on a higher percentage of their shots and pressured more than usual because you have three players on the floor that cant shoot. Monroes midrange game is good for a Center but a bit below average from what the team needs at PF and doesnt have enough range. Its just not gonna work they have to find a way to move Smith.
I think Smith would fit in welk in Sacramento but it is a big risk to mix him into that culture that is finally making some progress. The team has good shooters on the floor at all times and the top offensive C in the league with Demarcus.

chrisinozParticipantFrom memory ( which isnt that good) one season he had a better 3pt% than FT%

r377ParticipantJason Richardson led the league in 3’s in 07-08 season. He is a career 37% 3pt and only 70%ft shooter

HitsterParticipantFully agree that Josh Smith needs to play PF, I like the idea of him alongside DMC with the Kings. A trio of Gay, Smith and DMC works better than that of Smith,Monroe and Drummond.
The issue is Smith’s trade value will not be what it was when he was at Atlanta and SVG might be reluctant to trade Smith as Monroe could walk away next summer and they lose both and have a PF gap.
