There’s obviously been a ton of Kevin Love trade speculation over the past few weeks, especially in Minnesota. It seems like the fans want the Boston trade to get a high pick in this draft and try to quickly rebuild. Flip has said he’s willing to keep Love and play out the season, which I think is bluff. I think Flip knows he has to deal Love sooner rather than later. The thing that’s been frustrating is all of the sports writers and radio people around the Twin Cities are acting like the Boston deal is a long shot/last resort and if that was their best offer they’d probably just hold onto Love. Everyone insists that Flip wants proven players over picks. I get that it’s safer and might make for a better team right away, but I heard one radio personality even say he would take Barnes and Lee straight up over the Boston deal, which I think is absurd. I feel people that have followed this team closely over the past decade are so skeptical of the draft and draft picks due to Kahn’s many horrible decisions that they don’t realize building through the draft is probably the best way to go in a smaller market. I may be biased as to how good this draft class will be because I’ve been following these players so closely for a long time, but #6, #13, and #17 in this draft to me seems like the perfect opportunity to quickly reload with young talent that can grow together. I don’t understand how drafting Julius Randle (with the 6th) would be a last resort? It makes me wonder if these sports writers even saw any of these prospects play during the season. To think that you could walk away from the draft with Randle and J. Young (I’m not even a UK fan I just really like both these players) for example and a few other assets from Boston to me sounds like a big win. I just don’t see the point of dealing Love for proven players that are just ok. Now if Chi offered Butler, Taj, picks, and Mirotic or GS included Klay or obviously if Cle gave up the #1 you’d have to strongly consider those, but if not I’d have no problem taking the Bos deal. I think Flip realizes this, but it’s nerve racking leading up to the draft. I just really hope the Wolves don’t mess this up again!

I don’t blame Flip for not yet giving in to a trade. Winning cures most things. If Rubio can improve, Pek stays healthy, Dieng resumes where he left off, Muhammad provides that spark (looked good when receiving minutes at the end of season) and they bring in someone that can help right away in this deep draft, Minnesota is then next year’s Blazers. If they do make that jump, keeping in mind the young players with more room to go, it’ll be difficult for Love to find a better situation, unless he’s only considering the Weather LA>Minnesota :-p

Keep in mind they have 3 second rounders as well.

    Pek/Dieng

    Love/Cunningham

    Brewer/Budinger/

    Martin/Muhammad

    Rubio.  Plus their lotto pick.

I know what you mean. It’s frustrating because this team would be a playoff team every year in the East. I’m just worried that in the West even with the improvements its a 7-8 seed at best, which I don’t think will persuade Love. Then you have all the "They" interviews from last week and Rubio and Flip taking some shots at him I think finalized his decision to leave. Watching him walk for nothing would be devastating. Too risky for me.

But I do think that fans favor a trade that is weighted more towards high draft picks, and promising young players on rookie contracts, versus veteran players. Philly, Boston, Orlando, and Cleveland could all put together a package of high picks and a promising young player.

But, what fans want, and what Flip wants may not be the same thing.

I suspect Flip wants veterans, able to play right now, so that the team doesn’t backslide and become noncompetitive again, in which case Rubio might throw in the towel when his contract is up and want out as well.

Phoenix doesn’t get mentioned much in trade discussions, but PHX has a nice mix of young players (the Morrii), useful veterans (Frye, the dragon), and picks (2015 Lakers among others), and I would think they could put together an attractive package with some of those assets.

I think PHX should get more mention as a trade destination.

Yeah I guess I just haven’t heard anything about Orl and Phi, but they could both put together pretty good packages if they decided to offer.

People blaim such situations (players wanting to get traded) on being in small-market teams, but the main problem is that some teams have a failing management and thus are unable to win. You can hardly blaim the players (like Love) for wanting to be moved to a better-managed team like Boston. Now when you want to get traded to a team which is worse just because that team happens to play in New York (like Williams did for instance), that I don’t like.
